  • NOT new but back again

I am not new to Atkins I have been on this wagon before BUT I not only fell off the wagon too long time ago, I got trapped under it However, I am now out from under the wagon and jumping back on to NEVER be off again !!

A little about me: I will be 45 in December - wife, homeschooling mom that owns a hand-poured candle business with my best friend. I did Atkins in Fall 2004 and spring-summer 2005 and lost 75 lbs - I was not as thin as society would like, but I liked how I looked and felt good about me.

Well some things happened in life (as it always does) - fell and injured my back (still not like it should be, so I can't exercise) and of course I had to comfort myself with food (ok, I didn't have to but I did) - I slipped back into eating way too many carbs and found myself with almost all the weight back on. I have found it is not the amount I eat or even that I eat bad things, it is too many carbs.

I am still having issues with my back but know from experience that I lost 75 lbs with very little exercise before. I saw my primary care doctor today and asked her opinion and she was all for it....so here I am back on Atkins and finally have the mindset that it has to be a way of life - I have trouble with carbs and just a few too many and I am a lost cause. Now I know this and I am "finally getting it right", hence my sign on name.

I look forward to all the wonderful words of wisdom, encouragement, etc that comes from the wonderful people on this board and hope to be an inspiration to someone in the same shoes some day.

God bless you and yours - have a GREAT weekend,
    Finally Doing it Right

    Hey Finallygettingitright!
Good luck to you! Glad you're here! I've been very happy with the support and encouragement I've found here and would surely have quit before this if not for all the great advice and possitive thoughts and statements flowing out of here everyday. Welcome and come back everyday! It's fun!

Re: NOT new but back again

Welcome aboard Finallygettingitright! And welcome back to Atkins! You did it before, so I'm positive you'll do it again, no prob... it's darned uncomfortable under that wagon, isn't it?

Sorry to hear your of your back problems. I sympathise as I too am a long term back sufferer with two slipped discs... though, thankfully, it's not so bad that I have to forgo exercise (actually, exercise helps me). Do hope you don't have too much pain.
Maybe you could find some alternative exercises... like sitting stuff, where there's less pressure on your back. Perhaps you could get a pedometer and join Zencyn's weekly pedometer challenge. It's fun. I find that just wearing one (pedometer) makes me conscious of my step count, so I tend to walk more, even if it's only around the house; and anything is better than nothing, right?
Sorry, I'm no expert so can't make very precise exercise suggestions... I'm sure someone around here will be able to though.

Seems like you're in the absolute right mindset for success. To think of Atkins as a way of life, rather than a diet is the path that leads straight to goal and a permanently trim figure. Go for it!

      Happy Atkineering!

Re: NOT new but back again

Hi Angie! Welcome to the board, and out from under that heavy wagon!

I too suffer from a hideously bad back (had surgery) so exercise is a worry for me as well. Like Sally said, the pedometer challenge is great because it involves walking. There are several challenges going on, please take a look at them and see if you might want to join one! it's a great way to make friends on the board, and stay accountable for your eating too!

I look forward to seeing your around!

Re: NOT new but back again

Thank you all so very much for the welcomes and well wishes. I went to the store and got all the stuff I need - my husband is joining me as well. He wants to do it but will only truly be able to do it if I have all his stuff planned out. We will see how long he lasts LOL. I am determined to do this right and NEVER fall off the wagon again and if I do slip off accidently, I will NOT end up under that darn thing again !!

I will check out the pedometer challenge. I am going to do everything I can as far as exercise goes. Thanks again for the support - I will see you over on the challenges very soon !!

Wishing everyone a fantastic week - thanks again,

Yippee for your husband doing it with you! He won't even know he's following Atkins. You just cook and make lunches for you and he will reap the benefits without all the planning!
