  • Howdy all, Been lurking, Guess it's time to introduce myself.

Hi y'all, Jim here from Tennessee. Started the atkins on November 1 2006 after hitting my highest weight ever. I started at 352 lbs. and now am down to 262, My goal weight is around 218. I'm starting to get discouraged a bit as my weight has'nt moved in about 6 weeks. I've done it so far with no exercise program but I'm very active. I'm guessing a walking program will help get me losing again to hit my goal of 100 lbs. in a year. I take in about 20 to 40 carbs per day and feel I should'nt be stuck but here I am. Anyone else run into this and if so let me know how you busted a rut. Thanks and Nice to meet y'all... Jim

Hiya Jim and welcome! Glad you decided to de-lurk and post here with us.

First... congratulations on your awesome losses so far. You've done soooooo well!!

As for your six week pause... well, these pauses happen to everyone, and it's certainly true that the less you have to lose, the slower will be the weight loss. It's also worth remembering that now that you are at a considerably lower weight than when you started, your body needs less food to fuel it. This is a sad truth...and there are two ways to combat it: Either you adjust your food intake down, or you add extra exercise.

So... I think you're thinking is absolutely right on the adding a walking programme. Try to make your walk speedy rather than leisurely... you want to raise your heartbeat a bit, to help with the burn, burn, burn!

Why not also join two of our challenges: The Pledging flights challenge, where we get to count our flights of stairs and virtually climb all sorts of buildings and mountains worldwide... and the weekly pedometer challenge. They're both great fun and make you aware of how much you're moving (be it climbing stairs or walking). They can also be done throughout the day whilst going about your usual routine.
    Just a suggestion!

Post lots and keep us updated on your progress. We're rooting for ya!
    Before and after:

    PLEDGING FLIGHTS
Completed: 1st set of buildings and mountains (Everest,M.Blanc & Kilimanjaro, twice); Tower Masts & Chimneys; More virtual buildings; Challenger's Choice x 2 (volcanos and mountains on Mars). Currently climbing: Mount Snowdon again: 416/475

Start 10 Jan 2005. Maintenance since Aug. 2005.

Just wanted to drop by and give you a big pat on the back Jim. Congrats on your huge loss so far. Everyone experiences the pauses in weight loss. The walking will be instrumental in getting that scale moving again. I have been hovering at the same weight for some time now but I am not giving up. I can tell the inches are leaving and more muscle is showing up. be patient my friend. I hope we both get to that magic number of 218 together. Talk at you later, brady

                      Boys and their toys, hmpf!

Welcome Jim! Sorry I haven't made it by for an official hello sooner. You have done a remarkable job at this, but stalls do happen.

I know I'm coming in late here, but I wonder if you should increase your carbs per day. 20-40 seems awfully low for a fellow like you, and considering how far you've come. I can tell you that I can eat around 55-60 carbs per day and still lose weight. Others can eat even more than that. Let me ask you, did you bump yourself up the food ladder, are you currently eating from every food group?

So it's been a few weeks since you came back, I hope your stall has broken by now!

Brady, I've got 2 that I use regular, A whites DFX and a Fisher F75. It's a great hobby, I've paid for both units with the finds that I've made. I coinshoot and do alot of civil war relic hunting. It took me 2.5 years to find enough to equal the cost of the whites but I found some killer buttons and rings that paid for the fisher in a month and a half. Hate to hear yours is acting up.

Hey Jim, I have two cigar boxes full of old coins. My best find was a gold necklace and a ring I found at the beach in Biloxi one summer. My sister took it from me though. She said it was appraised at around 800 dollars. She gave me a hug instead.
Searching for the cival war stuff sounds very interesting. Keep me posted if you find anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the welcome Silly, Yes I've broke the stall by getting rid of the sugar alchols. I dont eat a whole lot of everything though, I've cheated a few times over the diet but get right back on. Basicly I reckon I've been on an extended Induction. I feel fine and havn't had any problems with this, I drink plenty of water and basicly take in no more than 40 carbs per day. I'm a few pounds away from the century mark and will slow it down a bit after that by taking in more carbs and adding more foods to my diet. I set a goal last November 1 of trying to take off 100 pounds in a year and I feel like I will make it. I may need some help from y'all when I hit over the hundred mark to eat a little better while still losing weight. Thanks for the welcome and concerns, I appreciate them and feel here I ain't alone in this struggle to lose weight, I wish all y'all the best luck in our constant battle, Thanks, Jim.

It is held twice a year in Virginia and is a draw kind of hunt, It took me 2 years before I got drew for the first one this past spring, Had a blast and got some killer relics.
