    Hi there!

I have been wandering around the board for a few days trying to get out of being discouraged.
The pics helped me the most.

I *did* Atkins a few years ago but I got bored & a crisis happened...and honestly - bottom line I was not "done" eating MY food, MY way. My husband dropped weight like crazy and he was able to hang in there with it. As much as I wanted to support him I totally caved, and like any good addict, I started to eat secretly and when he started back on his old eating habits.... then we both started back in with old habits...and got heavier.

I'm willing to take direction. I don't have the book but I'm going to get it.
I'm going to be on this board every night and am on day 6 of a pretty decent induction. I ate a dixie cup of sunflower seeds in the shell. (before I knew they weren't allowed) And I added about a tablespoon of relish to the tuna salad before checking the carbs (who knew???) I'm able to drink 88 oz of water/decaf lemon tea/splenda a day. (see, I do read what you are all saying!)

I look forward to meeting you all

Welcome. Congratulations on committing to reading the book. Don't stress over past mistakes, learn from them and perfect your plan to succeed. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Generally men will lose faster than women and we all have different life-styles, eating habits and body types.

As long as you get comfortable with the program (eating, exercise, water, supplements), be honest with yourself and stay focused on succeeding..it will happen.

The ADBB is the best support system filled with people who understand and will offer you motivation and friendship. Best wishes...come here often and keep us posted on your progress. You can do it!!

Welcome to ADBB, Defrazld. I am glad you quit wandering and decided to join us. Don't worry about small mistakes, we have all made them and we move on and chalk it up as a learning experience. Congrats on drinking your water. I look forward to reading your posts and the progress you make with each passing day. I hope you enjoy reading the book, it is an eye opener on how this way of eating really does work. ttyl, brady

Welcome aboard Defrazld! Nice to have you with us. Nice also that you read what's on this board and are intending to get a hold of the book. Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) is the one you want and the one this board goes by.

I agree with the others about not worrying about past mistakes. Look to the future and learn from the past is a good motto.
I'm positive you'll do splendidly on Atkins and am sure looking forward to cheering you along the way!

Welcome! If we all waited until we knew how to do this perfectly, it would just be another excuse to put off starting. After nearly two years, I am still learning and making mistakes. Still reading, too. You have to read every label--the ingredients list first. You can never know and remember it all. It does get much, much easier, though.

Wow - I woke up this morning (from Sunny CA) to wonderful posts! I can tell this is going to be great

I measured my veggies this morning.... 1 cup sure isn't very big. It was a bit of a shock because the lettuce was about 2 cups that I have been putting in. Then a 1/2 tomato and a celery with cream cheese.
And we won't even go there when I finally found out how much splenda we can have...
A little disheartening but....ohwell. Push through. Does this mean I start my induction over again or just extend it? I think I'll just keep going and extending it until I have had a REAL 14 day induction...is that realistic?

One question I have had is this - I'm lightheaded at times and I don't know what to do about it - I read something about it but I'm unable to remember lol

If I can quit smoking and all the other things I've done, I can sure do this!
Still....only 3 packs of splenda a day? No fudging?

              geesh

You exercise INSIDE with the air conditioning cranked wide open. I can take cold a lot better than hot and humid, but I have the Walking Away the Pounds video to do when it's too hot or too cold to exercise outside. I have a few others, but this one is the best. It's 4 miles.

BTW--I'm older than you by more than a decade and started at 296 pounds and I'm in size 12 jeans--so it's way possible for you--sooner than you think!

Ah, will have to try that... hmmm notice I said the word "try"

                      Re: 6 days in...

I sympathise... we've just come through a bout of temps up to 106°... and I've no air conditioning Exercising was a real chore. I get my exercise routine and dog walk done in the very early morning (get up between 5 and 5.30 am!). It's the only way, imho. Then flake out in the afternoon.

Still feeling light headed? You might benefit from a potassium supplement. All the water we drink can wash away a lot of minerals etc. if you cant get a good potassium supplement you can add it through your foods. Avocado and Parsley are both high in potassium . Lite Salt also has added potassium to replace the sodium. potassium and magnesium also helps with the leg cramps some people experience doing atkins induction.
you might like to visit the vita nutrients forum to find out more about supplements.
At the very least we should all be taking a good multivitamin ( preferably without iron)
                          Goodluck!
