  • New to Atkins

After years of struggling with my weight, I have decided to listen to my doctors orders and lose this weight. I began gaining weight about 8 years ago and have steadily gone up to 208 pounds. At 5'4", that is a lot! My doctor recommended Atkins. Although, I admitedly am reluctant since I am a self proclaimed carb junkie, I must do this for my health.

I had purchased the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution Revised and Updated several years ago. I have read it several times and think I have a good idea of what is in store for me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have a recommended source or book for menu plans. I want to keep this fun by changing my menu. I think diets have failed for me because they were so strict and lacked in variety.

I am also planning to begin a work out regimine. My doctor has told me to strive to walk thirty minutes six days a week. I also purchased a gym membership and some work out DVD's for those rainy days (like today!).

I am glad that I found this forum. I have read many of the messages and have goten some good ideas from them.

Hi nburnett! and welcome to ha

So glad that you have the book and have read it. What a wonderful Doctor you have! You will not have to fight him like so many of our members here.

    Well, let's get started then.

Come here and post often! We want to hear from you and how you are doing. Search the board and look for the Food and Cooking forums. You might very well get some great ideas there. If you have any favorite foods or come up with a new low carb recipe, post it so that others can enjoy it too.

Woohoo on joining a gym! I know that you will do great. Come join some of our exercise challenges.

One of the best things about Atkins is that it helps you get over your carb addiction. I also rid myself of a salt addiction and a caffeine addiction. If you follow the Way of eating (WOE) as it is written in the book, it won't be long and you will be feeling great and shedding pounds.

Make sure you exercise and take your supplements along with lots of water. I've been doing Atkins for 10 months and I don't ever remember feeling this good. You are very fortunate to have a doctor that is pro-Atkins. Good luck and if you have any questions, just ask.

Welcome to the board, you've found the best bunch "losers" there is.

Variety is something this way of eating specializes in. I look forward to hearing about your progress.
