  • I'm worried!

    Hey everyone!

I'm new to this and thought that hopefully some people out there may have been in my situation.

I'm on my 3rd day of induction and have been doing everything right (still waiting for my atkins book in the mail). I have never had a problem with my weight as from a young age i have eaten healthy and exercised moderately. A couple of years ago my eating habbits started getting a little funny (i had a few stressful things to endure in my life, whether that was the root cause, i dont know for sure) and was anorexic for most of 2006. I hated the way i looked it was definately a control issue stemmed from other things in my life.

February this year i began eating again and it became a complusion, as my body had been under nourished for so long! I ate some junk food but it was like i really coundnt control it - thank goodness this was for only a brief period. I have been eating good and still exercising for most of this year but my body has ballooned regardless of what i eat and how much i exercise, i am about 12kg heavier then what i was before anorexia and if anything, im eating less. It doesnt make sense, nothing will budge and i fear ive damaged my body for good, even tho i was only a short term anorexic.

Anyway i would just love to get my healthy body back again - anorexia was my biggest regret ever!!! I thought about trying atkins because of the way it stabalises insulin and i also know many have had great results - my only fear is that what if it does not work for me considering my body history? am i doomed to this forever? Has anyone had problems like these and then had success with atkins? I would LOVE to hear from anyone....

    xx

    Re: I'm worried!

I am watching this thread as well. I had a similar history and chose atkins because of the way it helps correct your metabolism but also it was a diet that wouldn't trigger my eating disorder. No calories to count, no fat restriction etc. When I was dealing with the ED I jacked up my esophagus from both not eating and... eventually other crap. I am 7 days in and last week wasn't even perfect and already my reflux and heart burn is GONE! Plus, I don't feel any disordered thoughts peaking through the way they do if I try a low fat or portion/calorie control type diet. You may take longer to lose because of the damage an ED does but you made a great choice for yourself.

      Re: I'm worried!

Hello there Hay Hay and welcome! Thanks for sharing your interesting story.

By all means give Atkins a serious try. My personal belief is that if you give it some time, you'll get your healthy body back and your eating "quirks" will be a thing of the past.
I've seen this lifestyle help so many people with so many varied problems. It's really very healthy. Induction is only two weeks... after that and whenever we choose to move on, we get to add back most food groups gradually, and to learn what affects us badly or well. All you're really taking out in the long run, is sugar , refined white flour and highly processed foods. Nothing too unhealthy about that!

It could be (but may not be) that it will take a little bit longer for your body to respond to low carbing, if you have metabolism issues. But have patience... it will work if you stick with it.
Do take your measurements before you start. Loads of people lose inches while the scale lags behind, and inches are really what count. I regret not doing this when I started. At times I could feel my clothes getting looser, while the scale took a while to catch up.

I'm really looking forward to reading of your progress. We're rooting for ya!

I really hope so....its the scariest thing when you exercise and it does nothing and you just keep gaining! I always want to know the black and white of things - im never happy with a grey area!

                Re: I'm worried!

                Atkins could help you.
As a person that is recovering from an eating disorder it's important that you get all of your meals in. It'll help you plan ahead, your appetite will be satisfied, and you'll feel great. You'll set an exercise regimen for yourself as well.
I think the key thing, as others have said, is to have patience because your body is trying to figure out what you're doing. If you only have a few pounds to lose, remember that you will lose much more slowly than say someone who has to lose 100+lbs.
Good luck, sweetie! And congrats on your recovery *hugs*

Thanks so much everyone for your posts! I really hope it works...im onto day four today...i was also wondering if you have 2 actually weigh your veges and salads? Or if you are having 2-3 cups of the allowed veges and salads is that ok?

Thanks so much for your support...Im on my fourth day of induction...i just feel really deflated because of how my body has changed so much after being anorexic for a year. Its just seems no amount of exercise makes a difference and although im doing my best at atkins, sometimes its not easy....i hope its worth it...
