  • The Prodigal Atkineer

    Good day everyone.
    Well, the title sort of says it all, but I'll elaborate.

    I'm a 17 year old girl, a senior in highschool, and I come from a family whose members are, for the most part, overweight. I have 4 siblings, and only one of them is in shape. I've been struggling with my weight for a long time. Probably 5 years, maybe more.

    I've tried a lot of different lifestyle changes. I've even tried this way of eating before. And honestly, I have never had results quite like those I had on Atkins. But before, I had trouble sticking with Atkins because I was a vegetarian for 2 years. It was really difficult for me to live with this way of eating when such a major food group was missing. After I suffered a severe bout of anemia, I started eating meat again. I thought I'd be able to maintain my weight, even lose weight, just by working out regularly. But even though I was going on 45-60 minute walks every day, I somehow gained weight.

    I kept telling myself "next year will be different", but now in my senior year, I'm ready to really buckle down.

    I think this is the 3rd time I've gotten into Atkins, but this time it's for the long haul.

    My name is Katarina, and I am a prodigal Atkineer.

        Welcome Katarina. As others have said, you've come to the right place for support, encouragement and information. You said you've done Atkins in the past, have you read the book? If not, I totally recommend you read it as it will inspire you and give you step-by-step information that you can refer back to whenever you want. {Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002}

        Are your sisters doing the program with you? I'm glad you're already walking and understand the importance of exercise. Make a plan to keep exercising, take your measurements (so you can see the inches melting away), drink lots of water and come here often for encouragment. There are many challenges that you can join, there will be lots of holiday recipes, ideas and friends to share your plan for changing your life-style.

        Get comfortable with your choices, have fun and be positive about the changes you are making. Don't look back...look ahead at how wonderful you're going to look & feel and the great example you'll be setting for your whole family.

        Why not start a journal so others can connect with you daily and cheer you on.

        Keep posting so we can help you celebrate your progress. If you need anything, just ask...everyone here wants to see you succeed and are full of information!
        Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F
