Hi everyone, i'm a 21 F and from Australia. I've done a bit of reading online about the atkins diet and decided that i'm going to try it as of monday. Atkins diet is probably not the right thing for me... i'm not that much overweight... i'm 5'4 about 132 pounds. Most of you are probably asking why on earth am i even considering atkins diet? I'm asian and not that tall so being at that weight i am considered overweight. I've wanted to lose weight for ages but haven't really gotten around to it. I recently went overseas for 5 weeks and came back and none of my tshirts would fit me! I guess being overseas it was winter so i didn't notice much change, when i got back home it was 38C, i went to get change into my summer clothes and everything was too tight. I exercise a bit, i go to the gym for over an hour about 4-5 times a week but i think its my diet. My goal weight is about 115 pounds. Is it ok to be on atkins just to lose 17 pounds? I read up on the disadvantages of atkins and it says you get loose skin after all the weight drops off. Does this happen to everyone?

If you want to lose weight, and keep it off, then Atkins is a healthy and great way to do it. It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks about your weight. If you're not comfortable in your own skin (within reason) then all the more power to you. I think the best thing about ADBB is the support you get from everyone. Whether it's 5 pounds or 500 pounds, it's never really THAT easy. So enjoy it here, and make sure you check out www.fitday.com. It might be really helpful in helping u plan out your meals / exercise.

thanks everyone :hug
this is my 3rd day of induction and i'm already 2 pounds lighter! I really like the way this diet works because you don't have to worry about being hungry and its all about eating healthy and exercising. Those tshirts i didn't fit when i came back from holiday 2 weeks ago actually fit now and aren't skin tight on me, its almost like i'm back to the way i was before i went on holiday. I was reading these forums when i saw fitday.com being mentioned so i've been using it to plan my meals. I wouldn't have know how high some foods were in carbs if i didn't sign up with fitday.*******************
