  • Long Winded In Australia & New to Low Carbing

Hey all, I am new to these boards and new to Low Carbing..here is my story in the smallest nutshell i can get it in( im long winded so be warned)
I am 40 and have struggled with my weight since i was 10 yrs old( i percieved myself to be fat from then-even thou i actually wasn't, i developed early and seen myself bigger than the other girls,in my mind that equaled FAT) Before i had my 1st child at 18 i was a size 14 and i was not bothered by my size --after my son was born i was a size 16(about 75kilo( 165lb)im 5ft4)and was now a single mother (read emtional hurts) and i gave up smoking that weight piled on..My family moved to another country and i was on my own with no support..Add to that other issues from my childhood with Men..over the next 10 yrs i grew to 125kilo( 275lb) then i moved to australia to be with my family and something in my head went "click" and i decide to go on a diet i lost 55kilo(121lb )in a year..i met my now husband and married and had another 6 children in 7yrs ..each baby i gained a little more weight then a little more and between babies(not that there was much time between) i never lost the excess ..then in 2003 in my 7th pregnancy our son died at 16 week gestation and i spiralled into 2 yrs of depression and gained even more weight..I tried at different interval to lose with WW and other things . But i gave in really easy.. I always said by my 40th birthday i was going to be thin..but my 40th has been and gone back in July ..but it made me take stock of myself and my weight so i read a little bit about Low Carbing and tried it a little --meanig i cut out bread ,pasta, rice but i did'nt count carbs..i then decided to have a go at a 2 shake a day programme and after 2 weeks on i started to really look into low carbing==the shake programme was low carbs low calorie..so it made me look further into low carbing over the last few weeks i have been reading different forums and have been journaling my food intake via Calorie King australia( its metric so its really easy )--
Ok so its been a few days now and i am reading the Atkins 2002 book and i am eating most days around 20 carbs some times under sometimes a little over..I am eating Veges ,not eating fruits
most morning i am eating 2 lamb chops and 2 eggs( i have to be honest and tell you it feel really naughty to do this..
Anyways i better stop now ---I warned you i am long winded..hopefully my adoraing charm makes up for that thou LOL

Its not how many times you fall down ,its how many times you get up and keep going

Re: Long Winded In Australia & New to Low Carbing

Nice to meet you Mashelly, glad you decided to join us. I too am a 40 year old so I know how that goes. honestly I feel better at 40 than I did the previous 15 years.
This way of eating is great if followed correctly. I am proud to see you are reading the book and going to stay on course. The weight will melt away.
I have to agree with you, I felt a little guilty too eating all of these great foods, but that is what makes this diet the best. The selection of great tasting food is endless.
Be sure and drink your water and ditch the shakes, they are a staller.
I hope you decide to stay with us and start your induction, sounds like you are ready to me.
The weight will come off if you follow the book, trust me.

Hi mashelly! Welcome to the board. Wonerful news that you're reading the book! it's invaluable. Don't feel naughty eating yummy foods. it's the fat in them that is going to help you with the weight loss! You shall see. You're lucky to have lamb frequently, it costs a fortune here in the States!
