  • Hello all, from Egypt :)

    Hey all!

I'm so happy to join the forums here . My name is Mira, I'm 27 years old and I just started the Atkins Diet (Induction phase on October 3rd, 2007) at 205 pounds. Now I weigh about 201 pounds. May not be that much lost, but it's still early to tell. Plus, I can feel like more than one inch gone from my waist !

And yes, I live in Egypt. Woohoo!

I try to do aerobics/tae bo three times per week.

I've read a lot about the Atkins diet. I actually followed it last year, but because I had no support what so ever I quit two weeks later. I'm determined to follow it till I reach my goal weight this time (so I can look good on my wedding day) because the extra weight is starting to get on my nerves (I can't dress like I want, I seem older....you know what I mean). Plus, I'm sure the Atkins diet is the one diet for me because I can eat and healthy in fact (instead of starve myself on low-cal. diets which are impossible to follow and make me really dizzy and tired and cranky all the time ).

I'd like to reach 150 pounds by mid December. Is that doable? And what can I do to increase my weight loss? I'm thinking about going on extended induction. There's this nutritionist I know (I don't believe him though) who told me I can go three weeks on induction that have like two days Atkins diet free (meaning I can have pizza, sugar, candy, whatever I want) then go on Induction again for another 2-3 weeks and that I'd lose more weight like that, as opposed to going on extended induction. I wanna know what you think PLEASE!

Looking for all the support I can get and making friends here !

P.S. Those on induction, are you all experiencing bad breath like me?

    Peace
    Re-re-re-re-re-starting Atkins:

    SW on June 7, 2009: 83 kg
Target: 70 kg (20 kg fat)
    I'm darn serious this time!

Caution: Bad breath and weight loss. I'm on induction! .

i think that Nutritionist is Nutts! WHY would you eat very well and then go out and eat JUNK and mess yourself back up again? thats a definite No No! doing that will knock you right back out of Ketosis and you dont want to do that... AND it will probably make you SICK! you will probably have an upset stomach! Bad Headaches! and be in the Bathroom ALOT! once you have started Induction, just keep doing what you have been doing... Dont Go Off Course! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! and you will probably lose the weight before your Wedding! (CONGRATS!!!) as you can see by my Avatar up there... KETOSIS BREATH? thats nasty huh? and sometimes it makes your Pee stink too! WoW! thats normal... KEEP ON TRUCKIN MIRA!

      Re: Hello all, from Egypt

Hi Mira. Welcome. Glad to have you join us. Sounds like you are doing great...Congratulations on the 4 pound loss so far.

Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002? It is a great resource for doing the program correctly and making plans to make it a life-style change. With that, I'd like to emphasize that to get the most out of the program and have long-lasting results...try to think of this as a way of life, not a quick fix diet to lose the weight and then go back to your previous eating habits. You'll find great meals that you can eat in the recipe and substitute forums.

I would not recommend going on/off to eat pizza every few weeks. It will mess up your metabolism and once you go back to eating the Atkins way...it will be harder to get your body losing again. It also causes most people to feel sick and tired. There are several recipes that you can substitute instead of eating the pizza and candy.

You'll find lots of support and encouragement here with friends who are knowledgable and motivational. Get active, join challenges, start a journal and have fun. Take your measurements too so you can see the inches melting off each week.

Best wishes to you and can't wait to hear all about your success!
      Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Hi Mira, welcome all the way from Egypt! Glad you've found us.

Please don't do what the nutritionist says! I wonder what data he's basing this theory on? It's much better to go by the book when wating this way. Extended induction is okay for a little while. There's a thread about it here:

            http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=16
"A forum for those who are metabolically challenged or have a substantial amount of weight to lose and find the need to continue on the induction phase a bit longer. Please be advised that Extended Induction is NOT a phase of the Atkins diet."

You will see when you read around the board that many people start thinking extended induction is the way to go. The reality is that if you follow the plan and move yourself up to OWL (Ongoing Weight loss), which includes a more varied diet, you will not only continue to lose weight at a steady pace, but you will retrain yourself to eat healthful foods.

Which ever way you decide, please keep us posted as to your progress!

Thank you so much for all your wonderful words, advice and support. I'm so touched and you bet, I'll keep you updated

Sillygirl: I think you're actually right, the thought of going on extended induction is rather painful...will keep you posted

*Note to self* no binging and no having-all-the-carbs-you-crave every few weeks. Evil, evil nutritionist.

              rules.
