  • New on the block

Hi everyone, please allow me to introduce myself, I am Nabyhill. I just started the Atkins diet on Oct 1, 2007 for a cruise that I am going on in December. I was just looking for a quick weight loss fix for the cruise, but now that I am on it I am not only doing great, I am feeling great. As of yesterday I have already loss 4.6 lbs. This is looking like the best thing I have done for myself.

      Re: New on the block

Hello again everyone, my starting weight was 231.8, my goal is 150 lbs. So I plan to stick around beyond that for much needed support afterwards and encourage others. I also have a question, I don't like water, so I have been drinking 64 ozs of crystal light to get my water intake in, which is 0 carbs, does this affect my weight loss in anyway, or should I try to drink just water?

      Thanks,
      Nabyhill

Hi and welcome. You should probably lay off of the crystal light. If you are taking in 64oz or crystal light.......that is way more than your sweetner allowance. Plus it is sweetened with aspartame instead of the recommended-splenda.

          Hey Nabyhill, welcome!
It's wonderful to hear that you feel so good on this programme that you plan to keep with it beyond your goal. That's the surest way for longterm weight maintenance.

Sorry... can't help you with the Crystal Light as we don't get that where I am, so don't know what's in it, but from what skaleskl says, it isn't legal. You'll find that you get used to drinking water. At first it's hard, I know, but hang in there and you'll find you begin to crave it.

          Happy Atkineering!

Hi Nabyhill! Welcome to the board. Your goal to lose weight for a cruise seems like some good incentive. By the time December comes along, you will have made eating this way a lifestyle for yourself. I'll look forward to watching you progress!

                Re: New on the block

                Hello everyone,

I am on my third week of Atkins and as of 10/15/07 I have lost a total of 12.2lbs. I took upon myself to weigh in this morning and I have gained 2lbs back. Is this normal? I am eating my meats, cheese, pork skins, sugar free jello, broccoli cooked in butter, broccoli and cauliflower mixed cooked in butter, cabbage cooked in butter and lots of water. I eat a cup of vegetables at a time, what am I doing wrong?

                I also wanted to ask:

                1. Is it possible to lose inches instead of lbs on Atkins?

                2. Can you chew sugar free gum, and if so how much in a day?

                Thanks,

                Nabyhill

                  Re: New on the block

Yay! 12.2 pounds is great. In answer to your question, you absolutely can lose inches and not pounds. Did you measure yourself before starting?

Sugar free gum is not allowed on Induction, and after that use it with caution because it does have things in it that can stall your weight loss.

You might want to post these questions over at the OWL forum, or post a few days of menu's at Review my Menu. It looks to me like you may not be having enough vegetables. In induction you should strive for 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of other veggie each day. When you move up the food ladder, you will be adding even more veggies.
