  • Over a year to no where? Full circle.

Hello- all you lovely and committed people!

Where to begin? (again & again)
Success pre pregnancy on Atkins = a 36 lb loss.
Pregnancy a 68 lb gained. Enough already about that. My child is 3!

As you will see in my signature. I re-started in Feb of last year. Though I regretfully did not stick to the board. I did stick to what I thought was Atkins to the tune of 7 months. With a total 8 lb loss. What! Yes..8lbs.
(Please newbies do NOT be discouraged, Plenty Successes HERE! )

So, I am thinking maybe some crazy chemical change in my body after pregnancy? After the faithful 7 months. I went low fat/low cal... and a lot of meal replacements. Got down to 184... then seesawed back up to 194.
Story of my life.. the two step or two steps forward 3 steps back.

BTW -I have Chronic Fatigue, (Low blood sugar)Hypoglycemia, Chronic Hair loss, Hypo-(low)Thyroid. And The kind Atkins achlowleged as a VERY Sluggish hypo Metabolism! Can't think of the actual phrase at the moment. and some other thing not worth mentioning.

I am 3 days in.. I am Dangerously Fatigued. Moody, eating in my opinion too much to often. Though..sticking to what I think is plan. I think I need to re-educate myself on induction (example chocolate whipped cream allowed?) Have not, but wantin too.
Mostley just eggs, chicken, cheese.. more eggs.
    And I am really Scared!,
Because I have struggled to stay the same even on a low fat , low calorie diet.

Doctor Atkins would be a Great Help here. (God Bless His Soul.Amen.)

If anyone ... If not, I can't blame you lol

    God Bless you all..
Keep your eyes on the prize!
    ~Karen

Hi Karen. Welcome back. "3 days in" wow, you are almost past the induction flu and it won't be long at all till you are zapped with the Atkins' High. You'll start to feel energetic and proud of yourself. Are you exercising? (That will help boost your metabolism, give more energy and make you feel better) Drinking water? Why are you just eating eggs, cheese and chicken? Here is a link to a wallet sized list of induction foods. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...=shopping+list

Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002? Reading it will explain exactly how the program is done, why it works and give you recipes, tips, case studies and lots of motivation! My advice would be to embrace this new WOL with a positive attitude. (way of life). Measure yourself, stock up on induction foods, exercise, drink lots of water and come here often for support and encouragement. Its lots of fun when you are doing it with others who understand and want to see you succeed. Keep us posted on your progress....I know you can do it.
    Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Welcome back to Atkins Karen. You made a terrific decision to re-commit!

Hang in there past the induction flu. It usually only lasts a few days, after which you'll feel energised and healthy.
Don't forget to eat your veggies: on induction you are allowed 3 cups per day (either three cups of salad veggies - preferably the nutrient dense ones, rather than just lettuce - or two cups salad veggies plus one cup "other" veggies from the induction list... basically, veggies that you can cook).
These are really important for vits and mins and if you don't have them you'll feel under par.

Keep us posted as to your progress. We're with ya!
        Before and after:

Re: Over a year to no where? Full circle.

Welcome back to Atkins (good decision!) and the very best to you on your journey.

Mostley just eggs, chicken, cheese.. more eggs.

That's very boring and not necessary at all. Even on induction you have a MUCH wider range of foods to choose from than that - eat as varied a range of food as you can, it'll make it much easier to keep going long term.

You can make it less boring by eating the full allowance of veg and varying it a LOT. Other things I found created flavour and variety during induction because they are strongly flavoured included:

          • Avocado with mayonaise and shrimp
          • pork chops with melted cheese topping
          • steak with mushroom cream sauce
          • well seasoned home-made burgers with mushrooms and a little fried onion

          • vegetables roasted in Olive oil and seasoned with basil & garlic (or whatever you fancy)

          • seasoning mayo with cayenne pepper or basil or a little curry powder.

The hardest thing I found when begining Atkins was getting my head around having a plate of tasty and filling food which is full of what we are constantly told is 'bad stuff' and actually being able to enjoy it without feeling guilty. There is so much guilt about eating - all that "food is the enemy" thinking. Good food is NOT your enemy, it's your friend, and it need not be boring or miserly in amount to stay being your friend - after all who sticks around long term with boring and miserly friends!?

Oh, and you are not one year to nowhere - you are one year into a journey that has led you back to where you want to be, on track to a bright future. No one ever said that the journey would be without bends or detours.

Stick around - this place is my lifeline and is a fabulous source of support. There is always a chorus of people to celebrate your successes, however small, and keep you on track when you waver, but you have to keep posting or nobody will know.

So glad you are here, Karen, and welcome to a great source of support and education. You will love it at ADBB!

May I add to what the others have said that taking a daily mulivitamin, one without iron, is recommended by Atkins, also.

Wishing you much success with your weight loss goals!

Welcome back Karen! The others are right, if you're eating on plan in a few days you will be feeling just fine. I like the quote in your siganture, keep your eye on the prize. And that prize will be a thinner, healthier you!

                CONGRATULATIONS KAREN !!!
You have just made the best decision of your life. And you have found the best place to do it at. We have all made a wrong decision.. mine was in 2000 after duing so well and getting down to 138 I got off the program (and quit coming to the board... biggest mistake) and not only gained it all back but I started this time 13lbs heavier.

As with anything worth having, YOU have to make the choice yourself to do it but the support system here is just AWESOME!! I know for a fact that I could not have made it through the beginning without all my ADBB friends. Pls check out the 14 Day Induction section and find a support team for you. They are there in the same boat you are. Also, go look at the link Dreamof145 gave you. It's a wonderful tool.

Good luck and we are all here to help. Just ask!!

                  Karen,
I too am starting over. I just abandoned ship last time and did other things. Needless to say I did not reach my goal. It's Fall and a great time for me to start over. I have plenty time, about 5- 6 months before Spring to reach my goal. I am doing a much stricter Induction this time and I know foods that stall me. So far so good, 4.5 lbs the first week! Hooray

You all are truly great. What a fantastic responce and advice!
I was in such a bad place mentally for a few days there.. that I did not even log in. I think I am starting to do a bit better now. Thank you everyone! So many great responses!
I am happy to report, that I am down to 185.2 as of today! I have to change that in my signiture.
I think that Pork Rinds make me stall. When I removed those, things really got moving!
I have been using keto strips all week. And they have been dark, Today the are only trace? Does anyone know if this means I need to limit more carbs.. Kind of assuming this has to do with the rate of which we are buring fat.
God Bless all of you! If I could remember everyones name who responded, I would thank you all individually!
