  • Hope I will be accepted....

Hi! My name is Sabrina. I live in Wisconsin (Go Pack!!) and I recently turned 40. I am happily married and have 2 beautiful children (5 & 7). My height is 5'6" and current weight 140. Before having children, my weight was around 128. I was happy with it. Seems like the 40 thing, 2 pregnancies, and my absolute addiction to carbs has allowed me to put on some weight. I'm the first one to admit that it's not terrible, but I want to stop it now before I become terribly overweight.

I guess I'm a bit concerned that I love to drink wine. I don't believe I have a problem per se, but I do love nothing more than a glass or 2 of good red wine at the end of a stressful day. I think that may be part of my issue as well in gaining weight slowly over the past year or so.

I'm trying Atkins because I have no willpower to do a traditional diet that restricts calories. I have read the book, and believe I can do this once my carb cravings subside. It's been 1 day so far, and I would sell my soul for a bag of Doritos....

I have read many of your posts, and realize I don't have as much to lose as many of you. However, my hope is that I will be accepted and supported in spite of the low number of # I hope to lose. Ideally, 128 again would make me very happy.

That's all for now. Pray for me to stay out of the Doritos aisle at the store!!

Re: Hope I will be accepted....

Girl you are accepted even if you only had half a pound to lose. I'm still new to this but from what I've read in the book and on here it's not just about losing weight. It's about eating and being healthier no matter what you weight.

I know what you mean about the doritos... I feel the same way about pretty much everything in the baking section of the store

There's been more than a few times where I've felt bad and lamented over "not being able to have ? anymore" but when I feel that way I stop and tell myself that it's not that I can't have it but that I choose not to. When I see people eating something I want but shouldn't have I try and tell myself that "I just don't eat those anymore. I'm not the type of person who eats sugar stuff now." So far telling myself those things have helped keep me from them.

I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

        Welcome Sabrina!

This place is awesome, you'll really find some great support and the answers to all your questions
I didn't have much to lose either, I started at 133 and my goal is 110 - I'm 7lbs away from it now.
I love my wine too! Once you get through induction and start moving up the rungs in OWL, you can try out wine and see how your body reacts to it. For me, I loved a glass or 2 with dinner - now I "reward" myself with a lovely glass of vino every once in a while - not every night.
While I don't dig Dorritos, I would probably give my left arm for some brownies...
Again, welcome and best of luck to you!

Welcome to the boards! You have found a great place for support and help with any questions you may have concerning the Atkins WOE. When you hit that dorito aisle make a slight turn over to the porkskins and enjoy without feeling guilty. Good luck, post often, see you around the boards!

Of course you're welcome to join! Some people don't even want to lose weight--they do it to learn to eat healthy, clear up health problems and lower their blood lipids. Even if you're bone thin, eating white flour, sugar and junk is just not healthy. Besides, Atkins is noted for causing you to lose more inches than other high carb diets. Plenty of times when my scale doesn't move, my clothes start to get baggy, as if I had lost lots more weight.

            Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Hi Sabrina. You posted, so you are already a part of the family. Welcome. You are smart in recognizing that you are too addicted to carbs and want to get a handle on it now before it does become much more weight that you have to work on. Congratulations on making your life-change now instead of later.

Jump in, post, join challenges, learn new recipes, write a journal....what ever you want to do. Getting active here with others who are doing it makes it much easier than doing it alone. Best wishes. Keep posting!

Re: Hope I will be accepted....

Welcome Sabrina! Nice to have you with us.

I can relate to your liking for that evening glass of red! I too love it. Living in Italy, wine is cheap and good and the habit is deep rooted. I managed to reach goal without wine... took me eight months. After that, I re-introduced the wine slowly, without a problem. Now, at maintenance, I have my glass of red in the evenings very happily.

Hang in there... If I can do it, you can too, I'm positive. You haven't far to go.

Be warned, that with only a few lbs to goal, losses will be slower than for those who have a lot to lose. This is absolutely normal and if you eat right, success is assured.

                Happy Atkineering!
