Re: I'll probably need some support...

I just got back from grocery shopping like crazy. It was a shocker of about 150 bucks, cause i haven't bought groceries in a long time, if ever. I'm feeling good about doing this, didn't really have any cravings or anything today, so that's good. Had a question about cream cheese and sour cream thought, I can't seem to find them without any sugar carbs...any tips on this?

    Thanks Guys!

Frank, cream cheese is legal for induction, even with a sugar carb -- but not sour cream. I've found that the store brands of cream cheese seem to have more carbs than Philadelphia (unfortunately, Philly is usually more expensive).

Here's a handy, pocket-sized list of everything you can have during induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...?t=3286&page=1.

Glad to hear you've read the book and been familiarizing yourself more with the plan. And I love your signature! Good for you for putting so much effort into it. That's shows someone who is really ready to see some changes... Best of luck to you -- I look forward to seeing your progress.

Yeah, I agree on the store brand trend. According to DANDR(2002) on page 129 you can have up to 1 oz of sour cream per day during induction. Is that no longer valid, or do you know more than I do? I wasn't planning on eating it every day or anything, but I do like sour cream on certain things...

Thanks so much for your input and support guys!

Re: I'll probably need some support...

As best as I recall from DANDR Induction rules, there's a general limit of 4 ounces per day on dairy products. There's not that much compositional difference between cream, cheese, sour cream, creamcheese. (Disclaimer: I can't find my DANDR to join into the Read The Book Challenge! But I did find my old '72 version DADR)

I always cringe when I hear about "one last carb feast" though, it's a little like telling your new girlfriend that you need one last night with the old girlfriend.

It's good to get the blood stirred up once early in the day, even if it's just a walk around the block. What are you doing for exercise?

Frank, if DANDR 2002 says sour cream is okay, then go with that. I'm (clearly!) not an induction expert...

Re: I'll probably need some support...

As far as excersize I know I'm going to do the Couch to 5k running plan with the podcasts. I was waiting to get into ketosis before I got started, which happened today (according to a ketostix thingy, which was dark purple, and pretty exciting to see) I'm still feeling a little tired today, as my blood sugar stabilizes and such. This morning I had a killer headache and felt terrible. But I'm thinking I'll feel pretty good tomorrow, which is when I plan on going in a joining the gym, and starting the running program. I'll probably do some eliptical training too, as I used to love doing that. I want to lift heavy weights again, but I'll probably go about that a little more slowly, I want to focus on the cardio, and get this fat off of me! Any recommendations?

Thanks SO much for asking questions and giving support!

Re: I'll probably need some support...

Awesome! Got the purple stix already, wow. I think I only got purple once: remember pink is fine too, and it might vary with time of day as yout body phases around with chemical balances. It's like a pregnancy test, sort-of, in that pink is as significant as purple: you is or you ain't. I only used one can way back when: you can scissor them lengthwise tio make 2 from 1 and get a few more tests out of a can. Over time you'll be able to tell without the stix -- I, like many people especially at first, get a sort of numb or metallic taste or feel in the mouth. (I read somewhere recently that breathalyser tests actually measure a chemical group that is as present in ketones as alcohols.)

Exercise! Personally, I did best with aerobic type exercises, which to me means walking, hiking, jogging. I found that when I was still very heavy as I started my main Atkins weightloss event, just walking was plenty enough to get my heart rate up to a respectable training rate. Over time I had to mix in some jogging. In his original Fit ot Fat, Covert Bailey claims that if you put in 20 or more minutes a day at aerobic heart rates, you will get fitter no matter what you eat.

I'm not familiar with Couch to 5k, but it's good to read up on running if you're going to do it -- it's important to have quality shoes, allow your body some rebuild time between harder runs, etc ... I've found runner Jeff Galloway's books helpful. He recommends a run-walk alternating style, and his philosophy on carb burning versus fat burning, while not thoroughly low carb, is far more philisophically compatible with lowcarb than most running texts. Your mileage may vary...

I was your weight at your age, and I wish I hadn't waited a quarter century before I wised up! But glad I finally did wise up.

Re: I'll probably need some support...

Hey guys, just lettin ya know it's going great! Weight loss is working well. I'm pretty sore from excersizing, and have just the beginings of a sore throat, but otherwise I feel great. I almost forget to eat... Occasionally I do see something that generates some cravings, but I just know that cravings are fine, but eating carbs is ABSOLUTLEY NOT AN OPTION.

                  Thanks for your support!

Sounds like it's melting off you! Something to do: Find a nice thrift store and shop for some clothes. You don't want to spend too much at these intermediate sizes, but it can be really fun and gratifying to see how those smaller-waist slacks are feeling. How the old 3X shirts are looking floppy and time to look at the 2X and regular XL ...

Hey! We love to celebrate! We are as happy for our friend's losses as we are with our own!

I guess I can tell a little of my story here, why not... I'm a firefighter and an EMT. You DO know how dangerous that extra weight is for you in your line of work??? You can help people the most by getting yourself healthy and at a good weight.

I really love what I do. I love helping people, and anyone who knows me knows they can call anytime. I like people, and I like taking care of them. I'm also a full time college student. I work 12 hour night shifts and goto school in the day. I also edit/design various local websites. I'm an outside salesperson for a wireless carrier. I give alot, and tend to neglect me. This is obvious!

My girlfriend of two years recently left me for to become an alcoholic and partier. I'm not much into either of those things... and she was/is. Not that you wanted this whole story... Yes we did...want the whole story. It may not feel like it right now, but she is not the woman for you. She did you a favor. When you meet the right woman, you'll look back on this and thank the Lord she got out of your life.

I recently went to six flags. I didn't fit in batman. Batman is my favorite ride at six flags. It like ripped my insides in half to be the fat guy who couldn't ride. I'm also single now, and I remember when I worked out regularly and was more attractive. I want to be able to go to the lake without a shirt next summer. I don't want to worry about how I look. I want to feel good every day. I'm tired of feeling like crap. I'm tired of being a carb addict. I'm tired of looking like this. This is good! Make a copy of all the things you're tired of and post it somewhere you will see it if you feel like eating carb crap again!

I ussually just eat out for every meal. Atkins will be cheaper, but I'm going to have to learn to cook, and prepare food/plan in advance. I don't know much about this at all. If you've got any tips, I'd be glad to hear them. KISS (keep it simple silly) Get a grill and some veggies, both fresh and frozen. Bags of salad greens make having salad a breeze. I do a lot of cooking on the grill and it makes this WOE so easy and delicious. It takes no time to grill a piece of meat or fish and summer squash cut in half, brushed with olive oil and grilled is to die for. Same goes for roasted veggies. They taste so different just brushed with olive oil and roasted until crisp tender. I've roasted nearly every veggie known to man. I have a toaster oven which I use nearly every day. Cooking doesn't need to be hard or complicated.

I'm going to do atkins right, I've done it before (for a short period) and it worked great. I won't allow any excuses (and I hope you guys won't either)You don't want US to allow YOU any excuses??? I can do that! . This is what I want.

I'm going to workout regularly. I'm going to lift. I'm going to do the Couch to 5k running plan, and beyond... I'm holding you to it! Now get your butt off the couch and run!

I'm going to feel great. I'm going to meet a great woman who will blow the one who left out of the water.Yes you will! It won't even be hard! I'm going to look good. I want to, and I will.

I hope you guys will be here when I don't feel like doing these things. I hope to make some good friends from this forum. I'm probably gonna need some support. Your wish is my command!

I'm tired of living like this. Really tired of it. No More. No More Excuses, Just Results. You can have excuses or you can have results, but you can't have both![/QUOTE]

I did real bad... real bad.

Last night a friend asked me to go have pizza with them. I did. From my old favorite place. A pizza with sweet sauce, and 2 1/2 cups of dr. pepper. It tasted really good. I just wanna go eat Carbs like crazy. I know I shouldn't. I feel like crap now. like literally in my body. and I'm out of ketosis. And I just want to give up. I want to quit. Talk some sense into me?

Frank, I'm so sorry you didn't hear from anyone before now. Holidays are quiet around here. I hope you indeed didn't go eat carbs like crazy.... but I know that Thanksgiving is a huge temptation. Either way, you've now seen for yourself how dangerous one slip can be. I, too, have struggled a lot lately, so I'm certainly talking from experience.

Drink lots of water, get in an extra spurt of exercise, and come HERE and read and post when you want to eat something you shouldn't. Also, a huge help to me when I need to get back on the wagon is planning. Make sure you are not left without good, legal, satsifying options -- or you'll pick the bad stuff everytime. Also, eat lots of fat... it's okay if your ratio is a little off -- the fat will fill you up and help keep you satisfied.

Hope you're still with us -- hang in!
