  • Hello

Hi, I came across this site last night while looking for before and after pics of people doing Atkins.

My mom lost ninety pounds (in 4 months) a few years ago doing Atkins, she fell off the wagon and gained over a hundred pounds by the end of that year! I lost about 50 lbs following a no starch eating thing (unlimited fruit and veggies but no processed foods not even whole grains). I maintained that 50 pound weight loss since 2003, but over the last year I have put on 10-15 pounds because I have become careless with my starches.

I have been scared to try Atkins after watching my mom but I went ahead and looked some information up and found out that my mom wasn't following the plan correctly. So I decided to give it a try. I am going to have a hard time giving up my fruits and most veggies for a while but it should be easy for me to follow the rest of the plan.

So even though I initially lost 50 lbs I still needed to lose another 70. So here are my stats.

I need to figure out how to get one of those weight tracker things you all have and I will get a picture up in the next few days.

Thanks, I look forward to losing all this weight with you guys!

    Re: Hello

I'm glad you've decided to do Atkins the right way instead of taking the path your mother took. Be sure, if you haven't already, to read the book. It truly is the user's manuel for this way of life.

Oh and if you click on someone elses weight ticker, it might take you right to the ticker site.

      Re: Hello

Hi, Jess -- welcome! So glad to hear that you have read up on Atkins and are seeing how to do it correctly. Lots of people "do Atkins"... but not correctly, which is unfortunately part of what gives Atkins that bad "all meat, cheese, and eggs" rap. I hope you plan to eat lots of veggies... so good for you, and makes a big difference in your losses and long term success.

And don't worry -- you'll be headed up the rungs and back to your fruit in no time....

For one of the weight loss tickers, just go to www.tickerfactory.com. Very easy to use.

      Take care, and good luck!

Hello there msw and welcome! Good to have you with us.

If (like me) you're a veggie fan, then I'd advise you to move to OWL (ongoing weight loss) immediately after induction. You still get to lose weight and the extra food choices are very welcome. Many people lose more on OWL than on induction, particularly rung one which is more veggies. You can stay at this level quite some time if you like.

          Happy losing!

Hi Jess! Welcome to the board. I agree about moving right on up to OWL. The first rung is only added veggies. The rest will help you learn to eat properly and make wise food choices. The perk is weight loss! Best of luck to you.
