  • Hi All...

Hi! I'm Holly and DH and I have restarted (after a short time with Atkins, to see if we could stick with it...) this past weekend. I've been a lurker for a while now.

No set goals yet, just want to get through the withdrawals first. I have measured, and dread visiting the scale...but will do so later today.

    Happy day to you all!

Welcome to ha Holly and DH!!!

It's wonderful you're doing this together! It's so much easier when you can get rid of all the non-allowed foods in the house, and focus on doing things "by the book". Do you have a copy of DANDR (2002 edition)? The more you read, the better you'll do!

You CAN stick with it! There are quite literally hundreds of us on here who can testify to that! It's a matter of taking one day at a time, planning out your menu's, and having good high fat/protein snacks on hand at all times for those times you think you're not going to make it.

Let us know if we can help or answer any questions for you. Take a few minutes and read through the FAQ forum for some great info on the Do's and Don'ts of Induction.

Everything is gone! We packed it all up and took it to my sister's house. We do have the new copy of DANDR and we have only purchased foods on the acceptable list. So far the only thing I really truly desire is a cherry slurpee. But I have some water, no biggie.

Geesh - I've been on this WOE for so long that the THOUGHT of a Cherry Slurpee made me gag! LOL

Good for you for getting rid of the foods!!! That's really the only way to go for those who can do it.

I don't know what edition you got of DANDR - the basics are the same, but we REALLY encourage you to stay FAR FAR AWAY from any of the low-carb products some of the newer editions list. The most successful on Atkins eat whole, unprocessed foods, especially during Induction. You might want to drop by the FAQ forum and just print off our Acceptable Foods List, rather than one found in the newer books (written after the death of Dr. Atkins).

You're off to a great start!!! I can't wait to read your "success" posts!

The list here on the forum is the one I printed off, it was printer ready- as opposed to the one on Atkins.com

I have it in my purse with my calculator, which I am never without at the grocery store.

Right now I am perusing some lunch ideas, DH is a picky eater (he dislikes veggies... a lot) so this poses a challenge. But I am getting some great ideas.

Tell DH one more benefit to being on Atkins is that your tastes change dramatically! Maybe you could both try out one new veggie you've never tried before per week, if he'll agree to keep an open mind! Vegetables are a critical part of this WOE because of the vitamins, nutrients, and fiber they offer. The main source of your 20 carb limit per day should come from vegetables. So get adventurous once a week or so, and both agree to sit down and try out a brand new veggie. You might just find your newest favorite food!

              Thanks for the idea!

While perusing the recipe section, I found one for celery root, something I haven't had before.
