Hi all. I'm new and I'm trying to lose weight before my husband comes home from his current deployment. I only have a few months left, and I know I can't lose 75 pounds but I want to lose at least 30-40! Wish me luck! Oh and any help with EXACTLY what not to eat would be exteremely helpful!

Re: Wanna lose 75 pounds
Hi there and welcome in! =) This is a wonderful way of eating ("WOE") and really works if you follow the plan!
I reccomend picking up a copy of the 2002 version of the book, it lists your foods and how to do it and its really important to know it - its like $8 at Barnes & Noble.
There is also plenty of helpful folks here and a forum for the different phases of the lifestyle (first being Induction).
An undetailed summary is liberal amounts of fish, fowl, meat (beware hidden sugars and nitrates in lunch meats, bacon, sausage.. and avoid meats that are mixed, such as imitation crab/meatloaf/etc and limit organ meats to 4 oz) .. whole cheeses such as cheddar, swiss, cream cheese, etc (up to 4 ounces a day).. 2-3 cups of non-starchy veggies (think potatos, carrots, etc) and 1 cup of salad veggies (ie tomato).. avoid caffienated drinks and fruits, no legumes/nuts/seeds/beans..
Okay I realize its a LONG list of ok and not ok, lol. I would check the forums!Start: 162.0 | Current: 161.0 | Goal: 120 | Age/Height: 25/4'9" | RESTART DATE: 09-01-2008 | PHASE: Induction

Re: Wanna lose 75 pounds
Just one little correction
The veggies limit/requirement is 3 cups of vegetables total during the two-week induction phase.
Vegetables
You can have two to three cups per day of:
alfalfa sprouts
daikon
mushrooms
arugula
endive
parsley
bok choy
escarole
peppers
celery
fennel
radicchio
chicory
jicama
radishes
chives
lettuce
romaine lettuce
cucumber
moche
sorrel
These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber.
Other Vegetables
You can have one cup per day of these veggies if salad does not exceed two cups. The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:
artichoke
celery root
pumpkin
artichoke hearts
rhubarb
asparagus
chard
sauerkraut
bamboo shoots
collard greens
scallions
dandelion
snow peas
bean sprouts
dandelion greens
spaghetti squash
beet greens
eggplant
spinach
broccoli
hearts of palm
string or wax beans
broccoli rabe
kale
summer squash
brussels
kohlrabi
tomato
bean sprouts
leeks
turnips
cabbage
okra
water chestnuts
cauliflower
onion
zucchini
If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.~Joy

Welcome to the board! I bet you're happy your husband will be home soon.
Definitely get the book as soon as you can. While all kinds of information can be found on the board, reading the book is the most important.
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted.

Re: Wanna lose 75 pounds
Welcome to ADBB. I started the Induction Phase on Nov. 26. I have about 60 lbs to lose and I think that this is the best diet to help me reach that goal. I have found out some very good information on the forums and with just reading all the other posts. This website is very supportive and if you ever have a question, just ask and someone will have the answer. Good luck on losing the weight and keep up posted of your progress!!

Re: Wanna lose 75 pounds
Hi there--
I just wanted to say hey since your goal of 75# is exactly the same as mine. We are gonna look and feel so fine when we reach goal
I bought the book (new) on eBay for .84 with 2.25 shipping and it is really helpful to understanding what and how much to eat. There is also some really helpful information on the induction forum.
Additionally if you sign up on fitday.com you can put in exactly what you are eating and it will tally up the carbs--I almost panicked yesterday when I came up with 21 grams
but then I realized it is the NET carbs (which was 17) that count. Fiber is free.
Today is just finishing my second full day of induction
and it is truly amazing that I have not felt hungry once. I have drank 93 ounces of water each day so maybe that helps. I am amazed, so far so good.
I did my weight and measures yesterday and actually made my husband take pictures of me (full body in a bathing suit
) this morning and have them tucked away on the computer. I plan to eventually post them once I lose the weight.
I am sure you will look wonderful when your husband returns from his deployment. Thank him from me for his service to our country
Pam
