  • I have to do this

    Hello All,

Here I am, starting again. This is quite a mess. I am 10 weeks out of a 4 level spinal fusion. My recovery is going slowly and because of my weight, the work on my knees is tremondous because I now move differently. I can not go through another surgery to repair body parts because of the pressure put on due to weight. My life has been altered so much that it is hard getting through the day and the depression is immense.

I have to do this, I have to lose this. I have tried so many times and failed. I can not fail again if I ever want to be able to live a normal life. I want to be able to walk again, to play with my kids, to get back to living. I have to get out of this self-induced cage I know live in.

Would love all the support I can get. You guys are always so wonderful.
Value your life not by how many breaths you will take, but rather by the moments that will leave you breathless

Re: I have to do this

Lori, welcome! Very very glad you posted here. Joining ADBB was a really terrific decision, and we're happy you're one of us.

Don't feel blue... I see from your siggy that you're already 8lbs down. That's great! You're moving in the absolute right direction, and direction is the most important thing... far more important than speed.
Becky's right... fill yourself with positive thoughts and you'll get positive results. I've only just recently started to understand how much positive thinking affects our lives, and since starting to consciously think positive I've seen amazing changes for the better.

You can do this. We're here to help.
            Happy Atkineering!

              Sally,

Thanks for writing. I love the positive input given on here. I am trying to stay positive. Because I am practically housebound, it gets a bit rough sometimes.

Hey lanmaam! You can do this. You did the hardest part: you took the first step. Now, just take it one day at a time. Also, don't forget to measure...it helps when you don't see pounds moving off as fast as you'd like. Best of health to you.

You're always welcome to join us on the Kentucky Derby site (see below; just click on Kentucky Derby). It's a great group of people.

I can imagine it is rough, but take heart... post lots and use the board for support and motivation. If you stick with this way of eating, you'll be living that normal life again, sooner than you think.

                      Hi and welcome!!

I have a little bit of a different view here. I'm going to take your negative and make it a positive. Staying home all the time. If only I could. Eating outside of my home is the biggest problem for me. I am not a good planner. At home, there is only legal foods. No chance to cheat. Look at that bright side. There is one.

I can hear your will and your need. I know you are going to succeed. You work the program and the program will work for you. All you have is time. Learn, plan, share, ask. We're here for you and want you to succeed.

Re: I have to do this

I have been where you are. I've been disabled for over 10 years. At times, I was in a wheelchair, walked with a walker and then only with two quad-canes. Most of the time, I was house-bound. My weight kept ballooning up until I weighed 296 pounds. I had to take my own life back into my control and do something about it all. It was when they wanted to fit me with those canes that clamp on your arms that I rebelled and decided I would walk again with the power of my own legs.

I started Atkins in September 2005, and started exercising gently a month later. I owe a debt of gratitude to Catherine MacRae's Gentle Fitness video for getting me back on track. She has MS and walks with canes, but she is much better since doing these exercises. I grew stronger and lost a lot of weight. I no longer have to walk with any assistive devices and can even walk in stores instead of using the electric shopping carts.

I have lost 120 pounds and love the food that I am now able to eat. So many of my health problems were caused by the foods I was eating. I feel so much better now and even though I still suffer from an incurable disorder, most people don't even know that I have RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy).

You can do this! You have the same incentive that I did. You need to take back your life. When you get this far down, the only way is up!

                        Sunny!

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
