  • In Induction sice January 19th 2005 and going strong! long..

Hi everyone! I'm 29 with a husband a 6yr old son and a spirited horse. We're from Edmonton AB, Canada. And it's cold and snowy here right now, we were teased for a week with warm weather and melting snow and now it's the deep freeze again.

My husband and I started Atkins on Jan. 19th 2005 and I'm going strong with it. My husband also now eats the same way, but it is hard to get him to eat enough food in a given day. He is too used to leaving the lion's share of the food for myself and our son to make sure there is enough, despite my repeated statements to him that we've got plenty! I think it'll take him some time to get used to this new way of eating.

Thank god for my Rec. centre pass! I bought one that lets me into all the rec centres in town so there is always a pool or a gym nearby no matter what time of day it is. I like to mix up my exercises. i'm trying to work up to 6 or 7 days a week for some sort of 30min-1hr long form of exercise, alternating cardio with strength training.

A couple of days ago i went to a drop-in kickboxing/aerobics class, and i *way * overdid it (not having been to one before i didn't know what to expect and didn't warm up long enough before it started). i was pretty sore the next morning, so thought a trip to the pool for some in-the-water-light-low-impact-aerobics would be better for my sore body. And of course I somehow pulled part of my hamstring or something. - not the full muscle, just a 4 inch patch of it...how bizarre. so i went to the rec centre tonight and sat in the hot tub for 15 minutes, then went up to the gym and did a really low level workout on the bike (the kind where your legs are in front of you, not under you) for 45 minutes, then back into the hot tub for another 15. After that, my leg felt pretty good, but it's getting sore again as the evening goes on, so it'll be back into the tub again in a little while, maybe with some epsom salts to help out.

My goals are to slim down to 180 pounds and see how things look and feel at that point. Never in my adult life have i been my ideal weight, so i don't even know what i will look like when i get there. If i can drop down even lower than that without sacrificing muscle mass, i'll do it. but we'll see when I get there what my frame looks like.

This past christmas when i visited my parents in BC, i saw that some of my old friends had lost considerable amounts of weight and looked fantastic, and a few others had gained considerably. I realised then that if I was ever going to get the weight off, I needed to start right away. I hope i have some substantial progress by July 1st as that is when we go on vacation and it would be really nice to have some new spiffy clothes for that, and then again on august 1st this year when we travel back to bc again for another visit. i want to be so successful that people won't recognise me except for my long hair which i've had for years.

i also want to weigh less so i don't overtax my young horse while riding him this upcoming season. He is 5 and will be 6 this summer and is learning right now to have manners so he can be safe for my son to ride as that was who he was initially bought for(my own horse and one for my husband will come in time). We tried him out with a trainer of comparable weight and Sunny didn't complain a bit. he's a very strong little horse at 15 hands tall (Arabian, Canadian Warmblood cross), but he is still growing and i want him as healthy as possible so he can have a long life and working career as a medieval games showhorse and trail horse.

Other stuff about me: I work in computers as a tech support agent for a large company; I am a member of an all female world percussion group; I am a member of the medieval re-creational group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (http://www.sca.org); and I'm into martial arts and will be joining Temple Kung-Fu in a few months as my endurance and cardiovascular fitness grow stronger. I haven't been back to my original dojo since before my son was born, as I was quite ill after that event for quite some time, and now we have moved out of BC so there aren't any dojos here of Goshin-do.

So far i'm doing well with induction having gone from 267 lbs down to 252.5 pounds today and have lost nearly 14 inches total, - i'm down a pant size! I'm hoping to get into the next Bootcamp so I can really get this new WOE totally ingrained into me now that i've made the commitment to myself to do this for life, and to stay alive and healthy!

      Welcome and congratulations!!!

We have 2 things in common, I am a BritishColumbian relocated to Alberta myself (not too far from edmonton either.... I spent 9 years there)

You will certaily shock the heck out of everyone next time you go back!! The last time my family say me was in August and I had only lost 9lbs at that point, and they must either be sick of me talking about my diet or forgot about it because noone asks me about it anymore LOL (they probably think I fell off. Well, do I have a suprise for them LOL)

      Keep up the good work!
