Hello everyone, this is my third offical day on Atkins, and my first time going by the book (not just cutting out all bread, pasta, fruit, and sugar and calling it good). I'm giving Atkins a go because I'm at my wits end with low calorie dieting, and I want to give myself a chance to see if I'm just having trouble processing carbs.
I gained a lot of weight when I was pregnant with my daughter, and I managed to take most of it off, and maintain a weight of 140 for a year. Then I quit smoking in November 2006, and I couldn't stop the weight gain. I climbed back up to 160 by January, and started dieting and exercising then. I went to see my doctor in March to see about an anti-depressant because I wasn't coping well with the emotional part of quitting smoking, and she told me to cut my fat grams down to 20 a day after getting my blood work back. Then she acted like I was lying about my food intake/activity level when I gained weight!
So I started doing my own research on weight loss, since my doctor is pretty much useless in that area.
I started doing high protein/high fiber calorie counting (under 1500 a day), and I work out for 2 hours a day Mon.-Fri. I've only managed to lose eight pounds this way, which is really, really depressing considering how much work I've been putting into it. So I'm wondering if my body is just having trouble processing carbs, and wanted to give Atkins a genuine shot to see if I can actually get the scale moving.
I look forward to posting with you all!

This board is the best support system out there. Stick with it and the results will come. Remeber this is a lifstyle change, not just a diet.

I agree with Rochelle when said that it is not a diet but a way of life (WOL). The weight will come off if you stick with it. There are tons of people on this board who will help give advice and support. It's hard to do it on your own, but if you find support, you will be able to accomplish anything and everything. Good luck on your journal and keep posting.
