  • New to the atkins!

Hi my name is Krystal and I started the atkins yesterday. My cw is 194 and I would like to be 120. I am a very dense person and everyone seems to think I weigh around 150-160 but I don't. I wear a size 13-17 in jeans and would like to be back in my 5's. I gained 60+ pounds with my pregnancy (lol hes 4 now) so I have no excuse as to why I have not lost any weight. What I really need help with is some easy to do simple recipes. So far I have 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast with a celery stick, for lunch 2 cups romaine lettuce with 5.oz canned white meat chicken and 2 tbsp olive oil. For dinner I will have a can of tuna with a tbsp or 2 of mayo. I don't mind cooking but when I don't have the time, I just don't have the time. I am super excited to start a healthier way of eating and hope with the support I will follow through. I do exercise I run 1.5 miles a day on my treadmill and I lift 12 pounds weights 10x3 reps. I also do sit-ups 15x3 reps. I also wanted to know how much fat, protein, and carb percentages were to be. I always seem to have my fat percentage around 75% my protein around 23% and my carbs around 2% (calculated by fitday.com). I was wondering if I need to cut down the fat. Well like I said I am super excited and from reading tons of posts I see there is lots of support from everyone. Oh yea and because I have so much to lose I will be doing the induction for 4-5 weeks.

Hiya Krystal and welcome. Good to have you with us.

Here's a good link for you: Linda's recipes are terrific, and the induction friendly ones are marked with an asterisk.

    http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

Don't stress the percentages too much (65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs during induction). They're supposed to be a guide only. As long as you keep under 20 g carbs (most of which should be from veggies) and feed your hunger only, you'll be fine. Don't lower the fat too much; you need it for healthy losing with Atkins and to keep cravings to a minimum. Fat is your friend!

Thanks so much. You look wonderful by the way. I don't know what it is but I feel starved after just an hour has gone by since the last time I ate, almost a nauseous feeling . I think it is because I ate SO many sweets before this, I mean ridiculously alot of sweets, everything I ate was loaded with sugar. I am super dedicated though, tonight I went to a UFC party and they had chips and salsa and toquitos and guacomole, and not to mention beer lol. I held my ground and stuck to drinking water and I brought along my protein drink that has only 1 gram of carbs and 1 gram of sugar, and I had a little bit of that. It was hard because these are foods I love. Well Thanks again for the recipes and I really do hope the weight comes off quick so I don't get discouraged and go back into my old eating habits.

HI Krystal and welcome... The 3rd and 4th day are going to be the worse... That Protein drink you had is not good.. I am sure it helped to stay away from the other stuff.. But you will do so much better with Atkins if you eat pure meats and veggies..

Hey Krystal! Welcome to the board. Sounds like you did pretty good at your party. Watch those protein drinks, they should only be used in an emergency because they are loaded with illegal things (sugar)! If you do drink them, you should be going by total carbs, not net carbs in this case. It does sound like you've having a bit of induction flu, it will pass in a few days. Drink plenty of water in the meantime. A good tip is to keep cheese sticks in your purse, they won't go bad if unopened!

If you're hungry, EAT! just eat legal foods, dont stress the percentages, fat is okay and fat helps to contain our hunger,

Also water, have you been drinking that? its so important. Drink a glass before you eat, to ensure its actually hunger you are feeling as it could be just thirst!

Thank you so much everyone! I had a question, what about string cheese part skim mozzarella, is that okay because I have some and I wanted to know if that is safe to eat when I am starving? I have drinken about 66+oz of water daily. You guys all look so great so it really keeps me motivated to see how this will work out for me! Thanks for the great responses

                  Re: New to the atkins!

You can have the skim milk mozzarella, but the real deal is better. Remember, the lower the fat the higher carb count things usually have. That's why it's better to use real cream instead of low or non fat milk! Eat what you have on hand and don't buy the part skim next time!

I had a feeling I would love it here after reading tons of posts before I actually started the atkins. I also have a question, is it ok to have the diet soda with splenda during induction?? I would try to limit myself to one a day but I need something with some flavor lol

You can have a diet soda with Splenda as long as you follow the "three servings of Splenda per day" rule. That one soda probably has more than one serving. If you are trying to break bad habits, like craving sweets and sodas, you might not want to have the sodas during induction. It's up to you, but lots of people find that the diet sodas are stallers, too, and feed the addiction.

Thanks so much, I did have one and it really just gave me what I was looking for some flavor in my drink. I didn't feel any craving or anything. However I am down 7 pounds already and I don't want that saod to stall my weight loss, so I am going to wait until after my induction to drink the diet soda. Thanks again
