Re: New to Atkins and already ready to give up because I haven't lost a pound in 12 days!

Ok so slim jims are out!!! Is crystal light ok. I drink that all of the time and I don't think that it effects anything at all.

You are right I have not read the book. I will go and buy it after New Years and read it so that I'm not the annoying girl who didn't read the book anymore

I want to succeed on this diet!!!!! I will put down what I eat tomorrow too so that I can make sure that I have this down and am not doing anything wrong. I am going to be drinking alcohol tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has a yummy recipe for a vodka drink???

Where should I be posting my daily eating instead of here?

    Thanks!

Re: New to Atkins and already ready to give up because I haven't lost a pound in 12 days!

      Lisa,

The minimum water intake recommended is 64 ounces plus an additional 8 ounces daily for every 25 pounds you want to lose. Crystal Light, because it contains aspartame, is not recommended. Some people drink an occasional diet soda with Splenda or use up to 3 packets of Splenda per day to sweeten stuff.

Alcohol is not allowed during induction but (from reading your posts) you haven't actually been doing induction so it most likely does not matter.

Once you get the book and/or read the stickys on the induction thread you will be in a better position to do a clean induction which will help you get going properly with this way of eating.

It IS confusing and frustrating in the beginning but DO NOT LOSE FAITH because you will succeed if you follow the actual plan to the letter but it is really important that you understand what the plan is. I read the book and spent a lot of time reading other posts on here for about a month before I actually started induction.

I don't think it is necessary to post your daily eating on here unless you want to start a journal or do journal stats. Using fitday helps you to know that you are eating right. There is a place where you can post your menu for review but as long as your net carbs are under 20 and the fat is about 65% of your intake and protein is about 35% while on induction that is where you want to be.

      Don't get discouraged!!

Bummer about the Crystal light!!!!! I am going to miss it very much :-(

        Why is aspartame bad?

I need to understand this diet completely by the day after New Years because I can't waist anymore time. If I follow the diet perfectly how likely is it that I could lose 20 pounds in January and then another 20 in Fabruary? Is that a rediculous goal? I weigh 200 pounds right now so that would bring me to 160 pounds by the end of February. I am doing cardio for a half hour 3 days a week too. I have three kids and two of them are under 2 years old so 3 days a week is all I can do right now.

This is good! It'll help you tremendously to understand the science behind this way of eating.
A tip: Be sure to get hold of the 2002 edition. This is the one this board goes by. It was the last one that Dr A wrote in its entirety before his death, so hasn't had anyone else messing around with it.

Re: New to Atkins and already ready to give up because I haven't lost a pound in 12 days!

Aspartame doesn't affect everyone, it's just a known staller. Try some lemon squeezed in water with a pack of Splenda instead, just be sure to count the carbs in the lemons!

Both the cabbage and onions are very high in carbs. The slim jims you ate you have to count all of the carbs in it. I can see how you've gone way over 20 per day. The crystal lights are probably also stalling you because you've been drinking them in excess!

For veggies you should be eating 2 cups of "salad veggies" off of the acceptable list, and only 1 cup of other veggie like cabbage. That's 1 cup of raw cabbage. When you cook down veggies you have to keep in mind that 1 cup of raw may only = 1/2 cup cooked!

Reading the book will certainly help you get alll this straight!

Click on that link and it will take you to the induction forum.

Youve had some excellent advice, i'm concerned that everyone has been screaming NO SUGAR at you, and then see you were eating slim jims which blatantly say BROWN SUGAR on the ingredients, which you must of typed out...

you see that work anywhere you need to throw the food away! NO SUGAR!

you've wasted two weeks where you could of been losing weight!!

I lose 14 pounds in my first 2 weeks on this WOE, i think in two months i'd lost about 25... you can see my stats at how much i had to lose...

Could you lose 40? *gets out crystal ball* maybe??? we all lose at different rates, its possible!! someone on here lost about 150lb in 6 months! if you work your hiney off and eat foods ONLY on that acceptable foods list, that means NO PROCESSED stuff, then you got the best darn chance of doing so.

Good luck on your journey, if you need anything else during your first 14 day induction you would be better off posting it on the above link i gave you.

TIP! see the bars across the top of the page? the first one says "FORUMS"? click on that and it will list all the available forums on this fantastic board!

Thank you so much! It's so nice to have this support and I hope that I can be so helpful for someone like you guys have been for me after I get going.

I have decided not to drink tonight for New Years eve. It isn't that important to me and plus I may end up making a bad choice on food after a couple of drinks so it's not worth it! Thank you for being there and for all of your support. Have a wonderful New Year.

I did have one other question though... If I stick to the diet how much weight can I expect to lose in two months? I realize that everyone is different but I guess I am just looking for a realistic expectation to get excited about. I love thinking to myself, by bla bla date it will all be worth it because I will be a size blank or will weigh only blank pounds My goal by February 27th is 160 pounds and I weigh 200 pounds right now. How realistic is this goal?

OK, never mind! I didn't see your post untill after I responded. I am still getting use to this forum thing but I'm sure I will get it down. I had started to post in the Atkins first 14 day forum and thought that must be the induction forum. I will get this all down!

Thanks again for your help. OH, by the way...I didn't type out the ingredients I copy and pasted it so no I did not see brown sugar listed as an ingredient in the slim jims. It doesn't matter now because I am not eating them anymore. This next two weeks will not be a waste of my time again, I can assure you that!!!

Please don't make bad food choices tonight! You're much better off having a shot or two of straight alcohol which has 0 carbs. It will stop your weight loss for a day or two, but it's better than making poor food choices.

You have developed a great attitude already! You can't expect to reap the benefits of low carb, without doing the program right. You are expecting a lot in a short time, and you can't make it work without committing 100%. You can do it if you set your mind to it!
