I kicked it off at 294 on the 4th. I've been in induction the entire time. I'm at 277 right now. This diet works, I had a cheat but it's nothing - I'm back to following it.

Question though, how long can I stay on the induction? I would like to do it for at least 5-6 more months???

Well done, it sounds like you're doing well! What kind of exercising are you doing? Also if you haven't already, read the book, it will give you all the insight you need and answer all your questions

      Honestly...none.

I have the book but I haven't really gotten too deep in it. I just pretty much drink water, eat eggs/meats & meats/veggies all the time.

I think i'm going to start walking or something come next week.

Exercise is a vital part, so start some exercise pronto - make it fun! It doesnt need to be boring, just do what you enjoy! Just be active for an hour a day if you can. Swimming, walking, jogging/running, playing sports, workout DVDs. Without exercise your will lose weight but you wont lose those inches which are so much better! You'll get so much better results with a little exercise

I would urge you to read the book because it is amazing and will help you do this WOL correctly to get the best results

          Re: Started December 4th 2007.

Hi Started! Welcome to the board. Good question about the extended induction. We have a forum for that. Here's part of the information about it.
          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=16

"A forum for those who are metabolically challenged or have a substantial amount of weight to lose and find the need to continue on the induction phase a bit longer. Please be advised that Extended Induction is NOT a phase of the Atkins diet."

As you go along and read about other people's successes you will learn that extended induction is not the way to properly "do" Atkins. The purpose here is to replace poor eating habits with healthy ones. Our bodies do need carbs, that's why we move up the "food ladder" adding each food group back in a certain order. Following this as Dr. Atkins wants us to means that you can eat from every food group and still lose weight. Your food choices will become second nature.

Exercise is vital! We have a 24/24 Challenge coming up that would be really great for you to start out in. You commit to 20 minutes of exercise (any kind) in one 24 hour period. You can earn an award for your siggy too! We have walking challenges all the way to running challenges. I hope you will join one soon.

Welcome! Glad to have you join us. Dr. ATkins goes into your question in his book - on how to decide if you are ready for Owl. I feel you need to make a plan to go on to owl. Know how to do it and what to expect. Don't get frustrated, get prepared to add the extra food rungs and expand your knowledge on how new foods react with your body. Its a learning process and the more you learn and commit to the changes, the better results you'll see. Don't forget to measure, exercise and drink lots of water. You'll be fine, get active here and make friends and it will help eliminate the stress and keep you focused.

              Re: Started December 4th 2007.

I started at 296 pounds a little over 2 years ago. I, too, thought staying on induction for a very long time would help me lose faster. It probably did at first, but soon I slowed way down. I was missing my veggies, so I decided to start up the ladder and it actually kick-started my fast losses again. More veggies can help you lose more and gives you more options so you don't get bored and want to eat off plan or quit altogether.

You really need to read the book. Read some of the success stories of how many mistakes were made when they thought they were doing Atkins correctly, but were not really. When they read the book and really find out how it works, they lose way more weight and really enjoy this way of eating.

              Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
