  • Starting again!!!

    Hey,
I'm a 25 year old guy living in Dublin, Ireland. I've always had problems with my weight and wanted to be at a healthy level. i' have managed to lose weight on atkins before but as always i've put every bit back on... only this time i''ve gone back over the heaviest i've ever been!!!! so that's it, i'm starting atkins again in the morning and i'm gonna stick to it until i'm happy with the way i look again.

Thought i'd introduce myself here before i start

i'm 6ft, weigh 228lbs and want to get down to 175lbs so that's give or take 50lbs.

Hopefully i'll be talking to you all over the next couple of months

Here's a little secret... to ensure you don't put it back on again... don't stick with Atkins until you are happy with the way you look again. Make plans to stick with it for good. I know, easier said than done. But, so many people return to their former ways -- not just on Atkins, but on all "diets" -- and then regain everything they lost, and then some (as you've discovered).

So, if you can really try hard to look at this as a lifestyle change and not a diet, I predict you'll be much more successful for the longer term.

      Best of luck to you!

              Re: Starting again!!!

Welcome Connokra! Nice to have you with us.

I'm hoping (and echoing Adena) that you'll be with us for longer than just your trip to goal. If you make this a way of life, you'll be slim and energised for the duration. It's so worth it!

By the time you hit maintenance, all you really need take out of your diet is sugar, white flour and highly processed foods. There are masses of substitutes too, for the foods you love. You'll get lots of tips here for these.

Originally, I believed I'd go back to high carb eating after a suitable loss, and hoped to maintain by simply eating higher carb levels "juidiciously"... but somewhere along the way I realised that I could do this easily for life. It's truly the very first time I've been able to maintain. I hope this happens to you too.

Keep us posted... we're rooting for you!

Welcome to the board! You're lucky that you're living in Ireland, since you can eat cheese without fear on Atkins. Irish cheeses are terrific.

I too like the way you refer to losing weight until you're happy with the way you look. Great attitude.

                  Re: Starting again!!!

Thanks a mill for all your support guys. I'm already feeling better about myself, i know everything i've lost so far is only water but its just nice to know that i'm doing something about it and taking control of the problem.

i'll definitely try and see it as a way of life rather than a diet, every other time i've come off the diet i've put all the weight back on because of falling back into the same patterns

thanks again, wishing you all the best of luck
