  • 1st day induction blues

Hi, I am a 33 year old mother of one and have been married to my husband for 1 year on Jan. 12th I promised myself after my daughter was born 8 months ago that I would IMMEDIATELY diet and lose the added weight.. But, of course, that didn't happen. So here I am on day one, I'm excited about being on the Atkins plan but I am going through caffeine withdrawals like crazy!! My head hurts and I feel very cloudy... I will stick with it though because after reading all the posts, I know this will subside. I am looking forward to talking with all of you!

    Re: 1st day induction blues

Hello to you Renee! Nice to meet you, and welcome to the board.

You're right... the horrid withdrawal symptoms will subside in a short time (a matter of three or four days usually). Hang in there because when you get through this you'll begin to feel totally re-vitalised and healthy.

Congrats on your new baby girl and I wish you a very happy first anniversary on the 12th.
    Before and after:

I had the exact sme thing happen, although I didn't start feeling really bad untl my 3rd n 4th day due to Carb Withdrawls. I had some caffiene withdrawl the 1st cpl days but nothing liek the carb thing but neitherwere terrible. I reccommend ibuprofen 600-800mg which over te counter wold be 3-4 of them every 4 hours to help with the headache. I personally won't do aspirin because I gt asprin poisoning when i was 6 and am terribly pranoid of it now. Anyway I promise you it will pass. I am on day 9 and have just had my first cup of coffee but it was ONLY a treat.

I mixed a tspn of cinnamon with 2 scoops of coffe grounds in the filter <only made 6 cups of coffe, prolly should have made 2 with 1/2 scoop cause im not gonna drink it all.> used REAL heavy cream and 4 speda tabets <works out to 2 packets> and omg.... it was good but as I am typing this I feel the caffiene rush coming and I think its about time to clean and I think ill make it workout. CARDIO HOUSEKEEPING lol.

The foggyness is normal with the withdrawls... its kind of like an animal gone rabid to be honest. You just feel off. At least to me it was. You'll do fin and if its any consolation at least you can look forward to losing weight GUARENTEED if you stick to plan. 9 days and 9lbs here woohoo I have almost reached my 1st minigoal. After about 3-4 days youll notice you may feel like your forcing youself to eat, possibly around te 6th day it'll rally kick in. Lypolosis i what does that, is the bodies natural apetite suppesa and comes from being in ketosis aka burning your fat stores.

Here is what I have found since I have been on Atkin in my whpping 9 days.
Diet Rite sodas <many flavors> is the only one made with splenda that I can find. All the others if you check have apartame. DietRite comes in Black Cherry, Tagerine, White Grape, Cola, Chery Cola, and Grapefruit and costs about the same as oter sodas.

      Aspartame does stall

Sour cream can stall so eat in moderation

Sugar-Free Jello has aspartame <aftr induction try 1/2 cup with a tspn of sour cream mmmmm>

The Akins Bars and Shakes are not on the acceptable foods list made by Dr. Atkins. They conatin ingredients that is on the Not Allowed menu during induction as they can stall. I made this mistake and the SF-Jello one by usng the menu on the Atkins website that was not made by Dr. Atkins.

If you have qestions or need any help the people hre are fabulous ad absolutely wonderful and will helpas best they ca but make sure to try t search the answerthrough posts because it my have already been addressed although I just ask. You'll also want to refer back to your book once n a while. Also some people think it is pointless but I would reccommend getting some ketostrips or ketosticks from a pharmacy to give youself confirmation that your in ketosis or not. If you are drinking a lot of water like me <1 gallon> you will see only trace amounts but that is still fantastic as i means your buning your fat stores enough that even 1 gallon of water is still flushing the ketoes out.

Sorry for the novel hre but I remember what my firstweek was like. Itwascrazy and I thought I could eat things that weren't allowed. I hope this helps and if ya wanna talk just send me amessage miryag1@fuse.net

Yes...get the ketosticks! They are GREAT! They keep me motivated! My stick was soooo very purple this hour and I want to run around the block and move the burn process along.

I don't know if the purpler the better? Anyone? I read the book, but don't recall the answer to this one....

The start of induction can be tough. The foggy/groggy/headache is a thing that does pass. I would not beat yourself up on not jumping on the weightloss thing after a baby (I have 4). I was not able to even think of dieting until my kids were 6-7 or more months old. Kids will exhaust you enough!

congrats on your upcoming anniversary and the baby too!

Sounds yummy! I plan to buy some other flavors for my sweet tooth. I know coke has a diet coke with splenda (says it on front label made with splenda).
                Yum!
