  • Not feeling so great

    Hi all,

I donated blood today. I drank lots of water beforehand, had a good breakfast and lunch and thought I would be fine. I donated the blood, skipped the cookie offered afterward and went back to work. About an hour later I was walking to my car and it was all I could do to get one foot in front of the other. Then I got home and was washing dishes and I had to sit down. I ate a small spoon of organic, no sugar, peanut butter. I'm not sure if this was OK, but I needed something quick. I had a few sliced cucumbers, 2 slices of bacon and a fried egg for dinner. Has anyone ever had this happen? I have donated blood in the past and never felt this way. Was it because I skipped the sugar afterward? Any info. would be great. Thanks to all who are so helpful to those of us in their induction stage (I'm day . Also, I lost 3 lbs very quick (water?) Nothing has happened in the last few days. What is the norm to lose per week or month? I do (other than this afternoon) feel better than I have in years. I haven't been moody which is a miracle. I kinda feel a sense of euphoria or something like that???? Thanks again!

    Re: Not feeling so great

Hey Christie, welcome to ADBB. It is nice to have you with us.
In response to your question, I give blood about three times a year and I have never felt woozy. I never ate the cookie even before Atkins and I always felt fine. I am sure it has something to do with the size of the person. I could always just get right up and walk out and my much smaller sister would have to sit there for a good while.
Any how, I wish you success at this way of eating, ttyl, brady

I haven't given blood on Atkins, but once when I donated plasma a few years ago (pre-Atkins) I had the same thing happen. Shortly afterwards I was so weak and lethargic I could barely walk. I don't think it has anything to do with low-carb (since I ate the carbage they gave me before and still felt awful) I think it had more to do with me not eating enough (though I thought I had) and being too active afterward, rather than eating/not eating carbs.

        Re: Not feeling so great

        Hiya and welcome Helpmedothis!
Kudos to you for giving blood. Can't answer your question I'm afraid as I've never given blood before.

Re normal weight loss... it's really difficult to say what is a normal amount and what isn't. Everyone's different and their losses depend on so many factors: age, gender, activity level, medications etc. etc. Anyway, try not to stress the speed of loss; rather think direction. If it's downwards, you're cool. And when you're at goal, it'll probably seem like the weight melted off quite quickly, even though it might seem slow at present.

        Happy losing!
