  • Hello, I have a lot to lose, so get used to me!

My name is Bill and I'm starting the Atkins diet tomorrow. I'm a college student in Vermont who has a passion for sports. I carry a 5 handicap on the golf course, and am a devout follower of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

I was out buying some clothes the other day and I finally had the moment when I knew I needed to change my life. I was at a Big and Tall store buying a new pair of jeans and I had to get the biggest size they had, 60 inches. I weigh close to 400 pounds and really never had a problem with my self until recently. I've always been big, but I could always beat anyone on the golf course, or shooting hoops, and could always throw a ball as far and as accurately as anyone. I love playing sports, and they come easily to me. I am, in my opinion, an athlete trapped in a fat guy's body. I've had enough, and I'm going to change.

I'm a person who gets addicted to things, and Atkins will be my new passion. I have to lose weight, a lot of weight, and this is the best option that I've seen. My goal, quite simply, is to become have the man I am now. 400 to 200 pounds. I feel I have a lot of muscle under my fat right now, and I'm a tall enough guy so that 200 seems reasonable as a final goal weight.

So far I've bought a water filter to change my college's terrible tap water into something I can drink a lot of. I've bought food for the induction phase. I've printed out any material on Atkins I can find on the web and made a little personal guidebook. I've joined here. I have to smart about this, and I figure that the support from friends and hopefully people on this message board will help me along. I look forward to sharing my story as the time goes on.

AOL IM me at PatriotsandSox if you want to say hi, or just reply here.

welcome to the board come down to the Century club and hang with the superheavy weights. We have our own exercise challenge to help keep you doing the mandatory exercise part of the program.

I hope you won't take this wrong but you really need to get your hands on the DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 or newer printing. Read it cover to cover and follow the rules of induction in chapter 11. if you do a Cliff notes version with stuff you got off the net you will get cliff notes results and be missing important stuff you need to know to understand why we tell you to do it the way we do.

If you eat your Atkins according to those rules and food lists in chapter 11 and stop eating when your hunger is satsified even if you got room in your belly food on the plate or carbs in your budget, drink all the water you need (check the FAQ section about water and you will be chugging it), doing the mandatory exervcise part both the resistance and the aerobic type and take the supplements and vits your body needs based on your food choices you too will be a big loser!

    Happy low carbing.

Very kind, your right about buying the book, I will do that tomorrow. One of the questions I had hoped to get answered was just which book to buy, as there are seemingly thousands out there. I will look for the book you mention, and have dropped into the Century Club. I guess us really big (and formerly really big) people have to stick together!

My exercise will come mainly from walking, between golf (when the snow melts anyway) and walking to and from class and work I actually already get quite a bit of exercise. I will look forward to walking longer and longer distances and hopefully as I lose it will be easier and easier to do. Thanks for the advice, see you in the Century Club.

Thanks for the kind words, I've always been an energetic and fun loving person, you know, the fat kid who makes people laugh. I just recently found out that skinny people can make you laugh too...

I just bought the book recommended earlier, and I'm preparing to start induction...hopefully within the next few days. I have to get food and prepare for a new WOE. (I'm starting to get the lingo!)

I'll be in the century club
