  • so much to lose

hi everyone... i am so glad that i found this board, just reading all of your posts and seeing your success has been such a motivation! i did atkins four years ago and lost about 50 lbs... unfortunately, since then i have gained all of it then some back. i recently got engaged and will be getting married in on november 29, and i can't bear to think of myself as heavy as i am on my wedding day. when i think about how much weight i've gained, it makes me want to cry. i have been avoiding the scale for a long time, but this week i finally weighed myself and faced the truth: 277 it is scary to think that i let myself go like this and i am disgusted.

i just turned 31 and am at my heaviest weight i have ever been. i am so depressed and feel so helpless. but i have to stay positive: i cannot - WILL NOT ... be 277 lbs on my wedding day. i found this website last night and decided that it is time to start atkins once again. i know it worked for me before, and i know it is working for all of you... so today i started induction. i am scared that i won't lose enough weight to look the way i want on my wedding day... but i know i can look better. getting on the scale was a wake up call. i've always been healthy (thank god) and don't want that to change. i need to lose this weight for my health... and yeah, so i can be beautiful on my wedding day too, hopefully.

    i hope!

sorry for babbling... i have so much going through my head right now but i think i'm taking a step in the right direction.

        Hi Angelcakes!
Get excited!!! This is fantastic!!! You have lots of time to take control and have things go just the way you want them to. Warm wishes for a terrific wedding day.
I have done this before, with great success. I relaxed about 18 months ago and most of what I lost crept back. Back on track again, we are.

                      Re: so much to lose

                      Hi angelcakes,

Okay you and i seem to be starting out at the same weight and restarting at about the same time. Soo how about this together,

I won't think about my trip to Jamaica in December or the 100 lbs i want to lose; if you won't think about the wedding (well, okay how about not think about what your weight will be at the wedding) or how much you want to lose.

Instead, how about this... you and i both have 4 lbs to lose -- not time crunch nothing... just working atkins, exercising and our water..... then when the 4 lbs is gone we will pull another number out of the air and that will be the next goal. grins, i will even let YOU pull the number lol just kidding.

What i am saying is just start doing this... don't look at the amount in full you have to lose but instead knock it down to smaller goals that are in reach -- i.e., i never do 5 or 10 lbs lol, i always pick some oddball number completely ununiformed. If you start trugging along, one day you will blink and realize you are closer to your goal than you realized simply by doing what you need to do.

You stated the biggest thing you need in this -- you've taken the first step in the right direction. Hang in there and just as you are going to have to work at getting the wedding planned -- yeah no stress there!!! Put this on your list of things to do daily as part of that. Right in the middle of call florist and order bridal party gifts stick in eat on plan, exercise and STOP RIGHT NOW AND DRINK SOME WATER.

This board is great for the motivation and dedication, so take a deep breath and take the next step in the right direction.

Hope this makes sense, hang in there!!

Hi Angel, except for the getting married part, i can say this post describes me exactly....I'm new here as well, i will be 31 next week...... i went on the scale a couple of days ago (i'm 274) and i also was horrified.....the only difference in my story is that me and my dh are trying to have a baby (1 year now) and the dr said i need to lose weight.....the first thing i decided was not to get depressed but to get active....i completed my first challenge today and i feel really optimistic that this time i can lose weight and acheive my goals.....

good luck to you, just remember a little goes a long way, take it 1 day and 1 pound at a time

Welcome, Angel. I love that you didn't say you want to lose all your weight by your wedding... but simply that you don't want to be the size you are now. I think that's a great way to look at it -- though I'm sure you'll make terrific progress between now and then.

I started out weighing just a little more than you, so I know how frustrating it can be. And overwhelming. But I promise you that time passes quickly... those 4 pound losses Jrny suggests you focus on (great idea, Jrny) will add up before you know it...

You've gotten some great advice here. Take it, and I can almost guarantee you'll be successful!

                            Best of luck to you.
