  • Starting a New Year and a New Me!

I've done Atkins on and off for 4-5 years but the last 2 have been inconsistant. I am determined to do it right this time so that I get this weight off. I'm starting with induction and hopefully can stick with it for the 2 weeks. I pretty much eat low carb but my problem is I throw in sweets every now and then and I also like a glass of wine in the evenings. In other words I don't stick to it religiously. I would like to lose about 20 lbs. by May which is when my son gets married but I will settle for 10 right now. I hope this board really helps. I subscribed to it a long time ago but never really used it. Wish me luck and encouragement.

Good luck. You will get a lot of support here. A good way to keep track of your weight loss and eating habits is to document them in a journal. You may want to also start a journal here on this site. That's what keeps me accountable.

        Hiya Dhtaylor and whelcome!

I too like a glass of wine in the evenings, so can empathise completely. But don't worry... induction need only be for two weeks, after which you can start to climb the Ongoing Weight Loss rungs (OWL). You'll be able to have the odd glass of wine pretty soon. You just have to remember that alcohol puts weight loss on hold while the body uses it (alcohol) as fuel, before reverting to burning fat again(or carbs if you aren't doing Atkins). It might slow you down a little, but it's legal at the correct rung. Moderation is the key with alcohol.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey, though it really isn't a question of luck... if you follow the plan to a "T", success is assured.

Welcome DH, I seen in New Orleans Finest thread you are from Gretna. We are picking up on the different parts of Louisiana now. You have a good motivation with your son's wedding coming up. It will help you stay on track keeping that in mind. My son is getting married in May 2009 (no set date though) so I have a little bit more time to lose my last 30. Once again, welcome and hope to see you around the forums.
