  • Second timer looking to stay on maintenance this time

Hello, I am Mark and 5 years ago I lost 32 lbs in 3 months on Atkins, held it there for 3 years but I have slowly regained 20 lbs over the last 18 months. I never did completely hit my goal the first time around (missed by 8 lbs.) but I hit a plateau and didn't have the resolve to meet it. I figured that I felt great and I let it slide.

This time I am determined to down to the weight I desire and not let stalls discourage me.

The first time around I found it easy -- I don't know why my body responded that way. I surely didn't expect to lose so much weight so fast. Also, I probably would have lost it even faster but I allowed myself to have pizza and beer once every 2 weeks back then (we normally have pizza about 1x/wk). I figured that the weight accumulated slowly and I didn't mind having to reset. I won't be in that mentality this time. Not that I want to lose weight faster (10lb/month is fast enough for me) but I want to modify my eating habits permanently.

I seem to remember something unusual: days that I ate sugar free Jello were followed by more weight lost. Perhaps it was just coincidence, but I plan on doing it again. Maybe it was the reduction in other calories or fat (?) that allowed my body to burn more stored fat? Has anyone else experienced this?

I am on day 4 of Induction and my body has rewarded me with a loss of 3.8 lbs so far! I am drinking water like crazy, decreasing my caffeine intake, feeling true hunger pains (instead of eating mindlessly), and taking the dog on an extended walk every day. So far so good! Reading stories of success has inspired me to do this the right way this time! See you around the board!

I just restarted too this week - today is my fifth day of induction. Good Luck! I know you can do it ~ since you showed results the first time around.
