My brother lost 24 pounds on the Atkins so I just had to give it a try. I started yesterday. I was very excited to get to the 48 hour mark though. I went and bought some ketostix and already it has shown good results. I am sticking strictly to the list for the induction stage, although I will admit that I have snuck 1 or 2 diet cokes. I look at it as getting off of a bad habit gradually. I only have one when I absolutely NEED it- they are so yummy when they are ice cold.
Anyway my goal is to lose 25-30 pounds and this time I am focused and determined. I find that using the fitday.com for keeping an accurate journal of my foods is excellent. I have been to the grocery store twice and find that going through the aisles can be daunting. I am not going to give up -- I am not a big meat eater so this requires discipline. I have had a bit of constipation and a bit of a headache but not too bad. I am also label-obsessed. I am driving my daughter nuts by telling her what is in her food. It amazes me that food that I thought were really good for me or even just ok really are loaded with CARBS.
My plan is to stay on the induction phase until I lose the goal weight and then move on to the next. I am grateful for these boards. They keep my spirits up when I really want to dive into a bag of sweets. Thanks for all the encouragement- it is nice to know that I am not alone.

    Re: Determined

Sounds like your are off to a great start.

I just started on Sunday, and went through the headache stage on Monday and Tuesday. Back to normal again today.

I love meat and cheese so the induction part hasn't been too bad. I have been tempted by some pasta but trying to put that behind me. I also like the diet cola, and I think it will probably be okay as long as it is caffeine free.

I purposely tried drinking water only for the first three days until I knew I was into Ketosis.

I started on Sunday at 246.2 lbs., ( digital scale ) and this morning it said 241.2 lbs. I guess 5 lbs. in three days is a good start and it sure helps to keep you going.

I set two goals, the good ol 200 mark, and then onto 185, so I have a ways to go.

Hope you keep it up. Take care.

Welcome aboard! Nice to meet you here at ADBB.

Seems you've got the right mindset to succeed, which is good. I'll ditto the advice about being wary of the diet cokes... they can stall. You also have to remember to count them towards your daily sweetner allowance.

If you have constipation, you can try a tablespoon or two of psyllium or flax. They're allowed in induction for that.

            Happy losing!
