    Hi Everyone!
    I am new to the site, but have been doing low carb for exactly 2 weeks now and am down 11 pounds. I am so excited! I was loosing an average of a pound a day at first, then it stalled from sunday-thursday, and today I got on the scale and it finally moved again.
    For me I have found that I have to stick to as close to zero carbs a day to loose anything. I normally round out at about 10 a day though. (hard to avoid it) I have also been excersising 3-4 times a week. And drinking lots of water. I think that is why I stalled this week actually. I was drinking about 64 oz of water a day (8 glasses) which I thought was enough. Then I started thinking... I am burning a lot of fat right now. In order to burn fat the body requires water. So I upped my h20 consumption to between 96oz- 120oz. Once I did that the weight came off again. Maybe it's just water weight but either way it gives a great boost to the motivation. I'm so excited to be a part of this group!

    p.s.- my saving grace has been Atkins Advantage Shakes for breakfast, or a quick meal on the go. They curb your appetite wonderfully and have a good amount of calcium and other vitamins and minerals.

    Welcome to the board jessica. I would suggest that you read the DANDR book, or go look at the Induction Forum. Close to zero carbs is not following this program. Your required daily veggies alone would be close to 12-15 carbs. Our bodies need nutrients and if you're eating between 0 - 10 carbs a day you are not getting enough. Also, 1-10 carbs a day will not make you lose any faster than if you were following the way Dr. Atkins wanted us to.

    Your water consumption should be 64 oz for everyone, then 8 oz for every 25 pounds you would like to lose. The atkins shakes are not allowed on induction and really should only be used in an emergency.

    You can post a few menus here so others can see what it is you're eating every day.

      Thanks for the info.. I have read Dr. Atkins book, and have done the 30 carbs on induction thing and not lost an ounce. I have also done low calorie diets, all the while I was a State Park Ranger on mountain bike patrol 8 hours/ day and also never lost. This is the ONLY diet that has ever worked for me. I have also read that everyone is different and that some people can loose while taking in close to 50 while others have to be really low. "Certain individuals are so metabolically resistant that only more intense dietary restrictions prove successful. Once medications, thyroid problems and candida are brought under control, almost all overweight people who diligently adhere to the Atkins Nutritional Approachâ„¢ will lose and keep off weight. But for the small group of people for whom it does not work, more extreme measures are necessary"-Low-carb.com
      I have had my thyroid checked and all is good, I have come off of the birth control pill, I excersise and have done everything to the T and this is the only thing that works for me..

      I agree about the veggies, and I don't really count those towards my carb count for the day(as long as they are on the acceptable list.) so I am actually taking in more than 10, but I keep the 10 for extra's like a little cream in my coffee, the atkins shake, maybe some peanuts etc... So I imagine I am getting enough of those nutrients, plus taking a multi-vitamin. The shakes say that they are good for phases 1-4 on the Atkins website. I hope they are ok for induction...
      Thanks again for the info, the menu thing is a good idea. I look forward to using the site to it's full potential!

        Hiya Jessisamess! Welcome to ADBB.

        I have to echo Silly... about zero carbs not being Atkins. Also about the shakes (also bars, if you use them). Atkins Nutritionals is a business, and they are more focused on making a buck than on your weight loss. The ingredients in many of their products are not induction legal, so should not be eaten/drunk during that phase, whatever the website says.
        After Dr A's death many changes were made to his philosophies... and his thinking was that the bars and shakes should be used for emergencies, not daily.

        This induction carb limit btw is 20g/day, not 30.

        Glad you intend to use the board and all it has to offer. There are some neat exercise challenges which are fun and motivating.
