  • Throwing in the towel

So, I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I've had this habit for the past fifteen years or so -- every now and again, when I got out of the shower, I'd stand before the mirror, hold up my towel so it covered everything from the top of my shoulders down... and I'd try to envision a proportionate, healthy body beneath it. (I've been morbidly obese since junior high, so takes a lot of imagination.)

This past Tuesday morning, I decided to throw in the towel -- which is to say, I've decided to quit daydreaming, take a long hard look at my actual body and do something about it.

Since Tuesday, I've been drinking all the water I'm supposed to, eating more yummy greens than I've had in months (why don't I ever think to buy them?), and indulging in foods I've always been told would make me fat... and so far, I've lost seven pounds!
(I know it won't go this fast forever, and that a lot of the early loss is just water, but it's still a huge morale booster.)

I've read the book, done my homework, and I know that taking on the Atkins lifestyle will improve my cholesterol and blood pressure, and greatly decrease my risk of Type II diabetes and a myriad of other obesity-related diseases... but to be honest, my focus these days is not on how I'll look in my medical records, but how I'll look the day I don't have to hold up a towel anymore to see a healthy me.

Your personal trainer is adorable! He makes me smile! That is the biggest reason to get thin and healthy. You'll need the extra energy to keep up with him! Congrats on reading the book so you know how this really works! :reading: So many try to do it like they 'heard' it was done and waste a lot of time.

WOW, thanks for the warm welcome, everybody!

Moral support goes an awful long way... especially when one of my roommates, a BBW-lover who thinks I'm committing a crime against humanity by trying to lose weight, left Cadbury chocolate eggs out on the kitchen counter as bait. .

That said... today he asked how long I'd been at it, and when I asked why, he ran his fingers along his cheekbones and replied, "it already shows here." YAY!!

                            Re: Throwing in the towel

Hey! Welcome! Watch out for that scale because some days you may show a gain if you weigh every day. I don't know about you but that makes me kinda cry. Be sure to measure though with both measuring tape and with some clothes you want to get into. Because you will be eating better and working out, you will gain weight through both muscle mass and bond density but that fluffy fat will be going away so it may not show on the scale but in your measurements.

You should join some of the challenges! I am in the six week exercise challege because I hate exercising but this makes me accountable and I have done a lot better. I used to try to do too much too fast on the treadmill and other exercises but I would always give up eventually because I dreaded doing it. Now I say to myself "I can do 15 minutes" and before I know it, throughout the day, I have done a lot.

Good luck with everything and if you feel down, read around on the board as it will surely lift your spirits!

**** on Wheels-you can do this even with his sabotaging techniques! LOL, I deal with this every day of my life even before resuming this WOL as I am diabetic and DH's favorite thing to do is stop by the store and pick up ice cream, cookies, cakes, candy and walk around the house handing everyone one....yesterday when I left for the grocery I asked if there was anything special he wanted and he said no....i go to the store, buy fresh meat/veggies and a few treats for the kids that have never tempted me-pretzels, fruit snacks, etc. and when I come home he has the freezer filled with 4 boxes of french toast sticks, 2 pancakes, Sara Lee or Pepperidge Farm cake, popsicles and 2 frozen pizzas and on the table is 2 bags of chips, Little Debbie brownies and M & M's. His excuse was that when I asked him it got him to thinking about food and he decided to run to the SavALot and get some stuff......LOL, I proceeded to unpack the freezer, put it all in bags and made him take it to the freezer downstairs and told him he could put it down there or throw it away but that I wasn't looking at it everytime I had to put ice in my water!!!!!!!! He does it just to )(*@#$()*@#) me off!!!!!!! He needs to lose 90#'s himself according to the insurance company, but he doesn't like anyone telling him what to do so he retaliates by doing the opposite whether it hurts him or not. I've tried the teaching the kids by example, but that doesn't work for him either....

Anyway, sorry so long, just wanted to tell you we can do this!!!
