      Re: New Here..

Hi, nice to have you around!
Just a small correction, it's a way of life, not a diet! If you go back to your old eating habits after you drop those 20 pounds you will easily gain them back.

I would advise you to read the book (the 2002 edition). If you don't play by the "Atkins rules", all you'll do is a low carb diet.

Anyway, welcome on board! This place is really great and there are a lot of things you can learn around.

Definitely, definitely read the book! It provides a lot of great information & you might be surprised to learn that you can have carbs - just the right ones instead of the wrong ones! Congratulations & Good Luck!

I agree. The book is one of the most important tools for losing weight because it is a reference 24/7. I have three of them. One in the house, one in my purse and one in my suitcase. It has helped me over and over numerous times when I've been unsure of things, depressed and tempted. Read it, use the strength and the advice that Dr. Atkins has written. It is the best $ you'll ever spend and one that keeps giving over and over again.

                          Re: New Here..

Yep, read the book, and then read some of these forums. There is a lot of information to help us along.

I started about two and 1/2 weeks ago. Lost not quite 13 pounds in the first two weeks of induction. Lost another two this week, but the last couple of days have acutally put a 1/2 pound back on. I figure it is a temporary stall. I think the polish sausage kind of slows me down.

I think the best thing you will find, is that when your are eating the proteins, meat, cheese, eggs, etc., the hunger that is normally associated with other weight loss methods is simply not there. I don't go hungry all the time. I can't diet, or eat as a way of life, on a regimen that has me going hungry all the time.

I am approaching it as a new way of eating for life. I have really battled a number of people around me telling me that what I am doing is not healthy, or unrealistic. I have my annual physical in about two weeks, so let's see what the lab work shows then.

At any rate, this site will give you a lot of info, and encouragement, so check in often. Good luck, I know you can do it!

I have people telling me the same thing, A few years ago I tried a diet similar to the atkins.. (4oz) of meat or any kind of protein prepared any way and 8oz of veggies or salad.. no sugar no bread and my cholesteral shot up and I was put on meds.. I did lose close to 50lbs but I had to stop because of my cholesteral.. anyway I was eating egg like every morning.. this time around I bought some eggstarts.. (eggwhites) and I'm replacing those to avoid the extra cholesteral in the regular eggs.. so 13 lbs in 2.5 weeks is awesome.. I hope to have the same results
