  • Hello...

    Hello ,

Today is my first day on the Atkins Way of Life. I am excited to begin this adventure, but nervous as well.

Let me see, I am 33 and I live in the South with my fiancé Jeff. We have two dogs and three cats (yep we have a zoo). We are a furry family to be sure.

On Tuesday of this week I had an appointment with my OB/GYN for an ultrasound because we were expecting our first child. I was seven/eight weeks along. During the exam, they discovered there was no heartbeat so on Wednesday morning I had to have a D&C. Believe me, I ate everything with a carb in it that was in the house and the store from Tuesday until Wednesday and it was then that I really realized I am a carb addict who self-medicates with food.

So, this painful thing has happened. I know in my head that it was probably for the best since these things generally indicate a problem, but my heart is a little broken. I think that will take time to heal.

Since I had decided to begin Atkins on New Year’s Day and could not because I was pregnant, it seemed like a good time to start it now. I mean, I hardly have any appetite.

We will try again (this was our first try) when we are ready, but until then, I am going to watch my eating and exercise so that I will be healthier when the time comes. My weight had nothing to do with this loss, but I am using this tragic incident as motivation to try to get healthier and cuter. I say cuter because I had started looking at maternity clothes and I could not find anything in size 28, much less something that was cute. So perhaps I mean to find cuter clothes because "cute" is not my goal.

With all that said, let me say I am happy to be here, no condolences are necessary and I hope you all wish me much luck.

      Hi Emma,

Thanks for the hug. I think that this decision is something that will help me to get through this rough stage. I have something else to focus on.

I go back to the doctor next Wednesday and I am sure he will clear me to do some walking and stuff then, but as for right now I am on "light movement". I know I am supposed to exercise with this WOL and I am fine with that, but right now I can't. Do you think it will still be ok to eat properly until I can exercise?

          Hi Apan,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think focusing on my health, my fiance', my furry babies, and work will give me plenty to help me through this time. Who knew bacon could be so guilt free?

                  Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I am very lucky to have a supportive family who loves me no matter what so they will support me in this. I may even be able to sway my fiance to lose some weight (he is 318 or so and is 6"5').

Welcome to the boards. I'm starting again and wanted to let you know that the first time, I didn't exercise other than my daily moving around and was still very successful with a 30lb weight loss in a few months. This might be the way of life for you due to your limited exercise options at the moment. Nothing is more motivating to move you towards exercise in the future than the weightloss you can achieve with little or no exercise right now! Enjoy it and mix it up. If you can get your fiance to join you I think you will find it is much easier with a partner to help you clean out the kitchen of all the forbiddens. Much luck to you!

                          Hi Sally,

Let me tell you, the furry babies are great pals each and every day. If it were not for their cuddles, I would not be nearly as happy as I am each day.

I hope the doctor will clear me for my treadmill next week. I think as long as I am healing properly he will be glad to know I am starting a positive step toward health.
