  • greetings from the armpit of the universe!

PENNSYLVANIA checking in. ugh. yes. i do not LOVE living in pennsylvania. it is okay. has it's nice parts.... oh. forget it. i could go on all day about my "issues" with this state. i am a native michigander and wishing i was home.
okay. back to our regularly scheduled program. lol!
i have struggled with my weight my whole life. like many, i grew up on good old fashioned home cooking. translate that as breading, bread, cookies and fat!
at one point, i got down to a size 3 and for some insane reason, let that slip through my fingers. i am now 222 , as of today. down from 227. i am not exactly doing atkins. i am unable to. but i looked through the before and after pics and found it SO inspiring that i wanted to join the board , at least to tell everyone how thankful i am for your inspiration!!!!!!! you have motivated me to get started TODAY!!! get in gear! i am on again, off again but this time i am committing.
would everyone mind if i stayed on for the motivation?

Welcome! We are neighbors (I'm in NJ). Welcome to the board. This is definitely a great place for motivation. Are you following a weight loss program or just doing it on your own? Glad to have you here!

It is nice seeing a picture where I actually have a neck!

thank you for the welcome! 25 views and one welcome. hmmmm... i am doing food separation. i did it before and just decided to go back to it. i ate some chili yesterday, and then had some breadsticks and got bloated. i realized that food separation IS best for me. but a lot of the low carb/atkins recipe ideas will probably work for me as well.
love your siggy, by the way!

Welcome!!! Ok... I am gonna sound like a knucklehead asking this...but, what is food separation? Just curious.. Sounds like it works for you and that is what is important; finding what works and sticking with it. You will definately find plenty of inspiration and motivation here on this board. Look forward to hearing about your success.

        All the best,

Ok...I googled it. Looks like it is a diet where you do not combine proteins and starches in the same meal. Wouldn't starchy foods be mainly high carb foods which we wouldn't be eating during a meal anyway? Gonna go read about this some more....

I did food combining/food seperation for a while and I did notice a difference in digestion and energy. Unfortunately for me it didn't address my cravings or prevent me from just combining correctly with really BAD food. Good luck and welcome. Let us know how it works for you.

Re: greetings from the armpit of the universe!

hi all! thanks for the kind greetings! yes. the very most basic aspect of food separation is keeping carbs separate from protein and fat in meals. however, i can have meals during the day that are all carb, which, i believe, is very different from atkins. i got very sick on atkins and my doctor said i cannot be that restrictive on carbs. it's just how i am programmed, i guess.
when i stick with food separation, it gets rid of bloating, gives me more energy, and i lose very well. looking forward to some change!
