  • Today is the day!

Hi there ... after a few failed attempts at Atkins, I prepared for and decided today February 15th, 2008 would be the day I start Atkins for real. In the last attempts, I found the food itself very satisfying but my problem is my love of beer and wine! I have beer and wine everyday! The beer and wine is what through my off the last time ... SO .. not only am I starting Atkins today ... I am giving up beer and wine ... for the induction phase anyway. I'm very skeptical ... not of the diet, but of my strength. I weigh 195 lbs and I am 5'10. A healthy weight for me is 145-150. I really hope to get there.

    Wish me luck!

    HI Janey:

Welcome to the boards! Good for you giving up the beer and wine as it will only stall your success during induction -- later down the road you will be able to have them back (within moderation). You can do this - you just have to want it bad enough Good news is there is a lot of support on this board so check in daily, better yet post daily!!

Thank you so much for your reply! I have a few questions ...the big one is coffee? I love a single cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I literally can not tolerate caffeine at any other point ... can I have the cuppa joe or no?

      I'm excited and nervous!

Do you know how I put the little scale thing on the bottom of my profile? Before pics are on the way!

Hi canadiangurrl, I only started yesterday so we should be travelling the same path. Also I empathise with the wine thing I absolutely love red wine it's going to be a pain for me to have to go without I think with the coffee you can only have decaffienated. Good luck

If you follow the instructions on the site and create one, it will give you codes to copy and paste into your signature (you want the BB Code version and your signature can be edited by clicking "User CP" at the top and then "Edit Signature" on the left). =)

You're welcome to join our mini support group for folks starting this week, its already quite a livey thread! Click to go to it here

I'm also a coffee addict and it was one of the few things I just wasn't willing to let go of. Atkins approves decaf but I do see that rule bent a LOT around here, and if it works to keep you otherwise on track, I don't see the huge harm.

Just prepare it right. We can't have milks and you need to count all the carbs that go into it (1 packet Splenda = 1 carb). My preference is 1tbsp heavy cream and 1 tbsp CoffeeMate Sugar-Free French Vanilla. It makes it roughly 2 carbs and just enough to sooth my sweet tooth!

                    Re: Today is the day!

Welcome. You can do this. I was also a coffee addict but after reading the book and Dr. Atkins' words on caffeine, I stopped it. It was hard, I missed it, but I wanted to lose weight more than I wanted to drink coffee. Its a habit and once you stop for a few weeks, you don't miss it as much. I drank water all day everyday and soon my body started to crave water. It was worth it.
