  • Giving Atkins another go...this time with mom...

Hey everyone!! After lurking for so long I finally decided it's time to introduce myself.

My name is Daisy. I first started Atkins 3 years ago. I started Atkins on January 2005 at 240 lbs. By May 2005, I was down to 172 and went from a size 18/20 to a size 12/14. After that, I started loading up on the carbs again, not watching my diet, and I have gained 30 lbs since then. Now I am 201 lbs and a size 16.

My family and I are going to Florida late March. My mom and I went shopping and we both look like we are 9 months pregnant in our swimsuits so we decided to start the Atkins diet tomorrow together so we can support each other. I know that I am far from getting to my ultimate goal, I just hope my mom and I will be able to lose a good amount of weight by the time we get to Florida. This forum will definetly help me stay on track. You are all a great inspiration.
Looking forward to being in this community with you lovely people.

Hi Daisy. Welcome to you and your mom. Great that you have the support and encouragement to do this together. It will be much easier. sit down with your mom and write out your plans for food, exercise and reasons you need/want to lose the weight. Take your measurements, take photos - which will be very inspirational when you look back from month to month at the fantastic changes.

We're all here helping each other make life-long changes that will get us to goal and help us stay there, look and feel our best and live happier healthier lives. You can do it!!

Having a buddy (and what better buddy than your mom!) will be a tremendous help. You'll be able to share successes and support each other through difficult patches.
I bet you'll both look great by the time you get to Florida, and what's even better, you'll feel great too.

Welcome aboard to both of you and...happy losing!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I have made it past day 1 but unfortunately my mom did not. She ate a packet of french fries while I was gone but she says she'll start again tomorrow. I guess I got to watch her more carefully now. Hehe.

          Thanks again everyone.

Give mom a big hug and then some inspirational notes to put around the house. Reading them helps keep you motivated and keeps the visual of her success in focus. It really helps to have a written out plan on what she'll do next time french fries or other obstacles tempt her. Most of all, it isn't the end of the world. Tell her to get right back on track the next meal, drink lots of water and keep going - don't dwell on that one mistake. She can do it, we are all here and cheering both of you on. You can do it!!

Welcome to the boards and good luck on your journey! If you can, encourage mom to resume atkins with her next bite rather than waiting for tomorrow!
