      hello

yes i have read the book and i think it's great. a big part of the reason i am doing atkins is that i have a family history on both parents side of diabetes (type 1 and 2). my dad has had diagnosed diabetes for 2 years now and i dont want to end up like that as it is really affecting his health.

this is the heaviest i have been and i ask myself how did i get here. there is no one simple reason. obviously eating the wrong things the past few years hasnt helped but i have also had personal issues and health problems that have led me to end up here. but it's not where you start its where you end up!!!!

so i am swotting up here on atkins, atkins the first two weeks and a similar low carb diet called Idiot Proof Diet which is british. i am doing atkins but IPD has some good recipie ideas.

Thank you for welcoming me!!! i hope even though i am a newbie i can also cheer others on and help them out!!! i was nervously waiting here thinking no-one would respond but i can see what a friendly bunch you are by reading the forums over the last few days

Yes! Welcome to the board. You will be glad you have found us. Continue to do like you are doing and read, read, read. I do that sometimes, just do the search feature and read over anything that strikes my interest and it has been really helpful to me. Only advice I have is when you feel like quitting, come here and post. You will get enough encouragement to stay on! I should have done it when I fell off the wagon last year but I didn't and now I am starting over instead of being at goal!!!

            Re: hello everyone

Look your making friends and support already CONGRATULATIONS!! 60 pounds is very doable with this lifestyle ~ you just have to committ to yourself that you are worth it. The fact you have a family history of diabetes is also a major incentive to get the weight off so you hopefully won't have to go on insulin in the future. ((I am somewhat like you and have a high chance of getting diabetes in the future)). If you have any questions, post and someone will get back to your pretty quickly. Also make sure to sign up for any challenges out there that you feel comfortable with.

            Good Luck!

                hi everyone

I am just taking a work break and reading all your kind words! thank you so much!!! i find all your stories and photos really inspirational! great team spirit on this board which is why i decided to join!!!

i had a really bad day 7 of induction yesterday. stinking headache and very tired!!! so all your welcomes have really cheered me up and spurred me on!!!!

i have read the book and have been looking at lots of the recipies but being a dumb brit i am yet to work out some of your ingredients and measurements. we don't do cups here we are in some kind of weird Euro-limbo between metric and imperial! i have to say i am enjoying the food so far and am only really missing sweets. i am not craving them as such its more an adjustments of my taste buds. still being in the 120 pounds bracket is going to be WORTH IT!!!! no sweets are gonna taste as good as that will feel!!!!!!

thanks everyone for being so supportive. big hugs to you all from London

                  Re: hello everyone

Ohhhh London....(sighs with envy)... I was there just a few days ago and found it so very much improved... an exciting, vibrant city with hugely polite people. It wasn't like that when I lived and worked there many years ago. Had a grand time and wish it could have been for longer!

Your headache and tiredness is probably a touch of induction flu, when your body weans itself off the previous high carb levels. It'll pass in just a few days, leaving you full of engergy and feeling great. Hang in there; it's so worth it!
