  • Who wants to start March 5th?

I am 21, and have been married for 3 years now, got married to the guy I dated all throughout my senior year. I'll start by saying, the town I grew up in only had one street light, and a burger king for food. I even had cows at my school. So when I moved in w/ my husband after we got married, my senses were absolutely OVERJOYED at all the possibilities of fast food and restaurants in town. I was in heaven. Needless to say, I gained weight pretty quickly and havent been able to take it back off since. Ive even taken up running, and ran in a few 5k races. Still, no weight loss. My husband and I have repeatedly had discussions about my weight, and you dont have to be a genius to pick up on how he suddenly doesnt want to have the "grown-up play time" a married couple should still be having!! We're still practically newly-weds! I know he desperately wants back the cute skinny girl he fell in love with, and honestly I dont want to just KEEP gaining weight either. I want to stop this before it gets out of hand and take back control that food has had over my life for the past 3 years. Im in nursing school as well, so anytime I feel stressed out, I binge.

I am finishing up this crazy diet I started called the lemonade diet, because I wanted a quick fix. I have now realized after 5 days that all I have lost is water weight, and as soon as I get off of it, and start eating normally again, its all going to come right back. I need a long term change. So...Im on here researching and getting as much information as I can so that I can start on March the 5th. I could use all the support you guys have to offer, and even would like a partner if anyone is interested in starting at the same time? Dunno...I am not HUGE, but I am on the brink of being overweight according to my B.M.I. 24.`, and 25 is overweight. And trust me, its ALLLLLL fat. No muscle.

So that's me in a nutshell. Im here to learn....get tips....anything that would aid in my success.

Thanks for reading! Have a wonderful day!

Welcome to the board. Of course, there is no time like the present

    What I know:
    1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

Mrs. Smith -- welcome! Have you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition? That is the best place to start. It's really important to understand how this way of eating works, because it's very different that many diets you've probably tried before. For long term success, you'll need to see it as a permanent lifestyle change, not a "diet." Reading the book will help you decide if that's something you really want to do.

That said, while you do have to make some sacrifices on Atkins, there are so many good, rich, decadent foods you CAN eat. If you really take advantage of all that's available to you, it's hard to feel deprived.

Here's a great website for recipes. The ones with the "*" are all induction-legal: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html.

        Best of luck to you!

P.S. While it's none of my business, I certainly hope your husband's desire to be intimate with you goes beyond a few extra pounds. Perhaps how you feel about yourself having gained weight is coming through, which shows in how you approach intimacy, and it's that change in behavior that might be a deterrent for him? Just a thought.

Welcome to the board! You're about my age and our goals are almost the same. Just curious, how tall are you? Sorry to hear about hubby. Adena might have a point though. If I'm having a 'fat' day, its hard for me to feel intimate with my DBF. On the other hand, sometimes men are just poop. Either way, do it for yourself because this WOE is the best gift you can give yourself, in my opinion. You deserve to take care of you and enjoy being you! Can't really add anything else onto what Adena said besides eat a ton of fat and veggies.

Welcome, and I totally agree. READ THE BOOK. Not because it's propaganda, but because in order to make this WORK (in the long run), you need to really understand what's going on, so you can stick with it. And I did look up a lot of stuff to eat, but it didn't explain any details, anything about the vitamins & water - there's just so much more. And the book is so cheep - under $10, I HIGHLY recommend adding it to your cart w/ your new food choices. It'll be worth it.

Re: Who wants to start March 5th?

I agree. I read the book cover to cover the first time. I went from 166 to 115 lbs and it was easy, logical and I followed the program perfectly according to the book. Info I just couldn't nab offline.

Now its my second time on the program (kept the weight off for about 4 years, then decided I needed an all cookie diet, and here I am again!) and I realize, as I head into my 1st week of Extended Induction.. I really do need to sit down and re-read the whole thing. So even those who have read it - still need a copy! =)

My advice, in addition to what others have said, is to get off the lemonade diet *right now.*

I was on that previous to Atkins. You're eating lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. I nearly passed out on the second day and stopped. At least make yourself a peanut butter sandwich or something... and be sure to rent "Supersize Me!" It will change the way you view that fast food, fast.

Come join us! It's terrific to eat healthy, lose weight, and not feel guilty for using butter!

Re: Who wants to start March 5th?

Thank you guys so much for all the advice!! I am definitely going to be buying the book, and trust me, I stopped that lemonade diet immediately. I realize I need to change my complete outlook on food...and I need to make this a lifetime commitment...I am moving up my starting day to probably this weekend. I want to get started asap. I cant wait! Im excited to have found this BB because I can already tell I will have tons of support along the way.

As far as my husband goes, you all are probably right. I think my low self esteem just adds to it. Either way, i still want to be attractive for my husband you know? I think all of us ladies want that. To have our men find us "desirable". I think he will be very proud that I am trying to make a healthy change that will my last me my whole life.

Thanks for teh Induction friendly recipe website link. Im about to start copying those down!!!

                    You guys are amazing!

Re: Who wants to start March 5th?

Good for you! Just remember, there will be bumps along the way, but it's easy to get right back on the program. If you follow the guidelines from the book, you will lose weight.

It's also a good idea to measure yourself, so that when it doesn't seem that the scale is budging, you can check your measurements. A lot of times it will show a loss! Just be good to yourself, make a commitment, forgive yourself when you stumble, and keep going.

Oh. and drink tons of water~

Hi all, I've done this diet before and have been a big, okay i am doing this over the last 6 months and then nothing. I met with my trainer yesterday to talk because it got to the point when i was willing to pay for my session and NOT GO! So i knew we needed to get my head on straight. I have food at home that i will be starting tomorrow, i.e. eating correctly as well as start preparing for the week ahead -- which is usually my downfall, not being prepared and then it all goes to **** without a handbasket.

So while i will be starting before March 5, i am starting tomorrow. Welcome to the boards!
