  • Starting again after 2yrs and new problems

Hi All, I wanted to say hi and give you a quick update on what happened to me:
I had Graves disease and had my thyroid irradiated on Nov. 23 2007. At the time I weighed 132 and ate what I felt (lots of carbs). I quit smoking at Christmas one month after the irradiation. I started Synthyroid Jan. 23 (1.5 mg) and at the time weighed 149. I can begin to imagine what I weigh now as I've been munching (probably because of quitting smoking). I'm so miserable. I started Atkins about a month ago, but quit because osmeone told me it wouldn't work in my condition.
I'm going to start again next week. Any suggestions and support will help greatly. Thx for listening, Carolxi

First and foremost....GOOD JOB by quitting smoking. That in itself shows you have amazing willpower and dont give up easily. I have a great respect for anyone who takes that step and gives up cigs for good. Second, good luck w/ atkins. I start in a week, and cannot wait to give it a try and one day post my success story. Keep me posted. As a newbie, I think keeping up with other people starting at the same time as me will help keep me motivated. Maybe we can help motivate each other!!

      Hi Carol,

Welcome aboard. This diet has worked wonders for me. I am not too familiar with your condition but I think this diet will work for you. I hope you give it a try. You will find many supportive members on this board. I use this board for support on a daily basis and that is what has helped me progress through this way of eating. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

Sounds PERFECT! I am completely pumped up about starting. My weight right now is 145, and Im sure it wont fluctuate much from that until I start next wednesday (a week from tomorrow). Im just afraid that it will take me longer to lose than other people who have a higher starting weight. What do you think? Im not sure how all of that works. I think a buddy would be great as I will probably get discouraged if I dont lose weight after induction phase.

So Im going shopping tuesday night to get prepared. What should I buy?? I just want to go STRICTLY by the book here, and am afraid I dont know enough to buy the right things. What will be on your grocery list??

            Hi Carolxi, Welcome!

Maybe it might be a good idea to check with your doctor first just to make sure this WOE is right for you just to be safe.

Someone told you this programme wouldn't work in your condition? Well... there's one way to find out, and that's by doing Atkins.... which is exactly what you've opted to do. Cool!

Post lots and ask any questions you might have. We're rooting for ya!

I'll be shopping this weekend and I'll be getting a couple dozen eggs and some 0 carb sausages. For the eggs, I'll make deviled eggs - oh yeah - I'll be needing mayo!!, haha, well I guess I'll need more than I think: sugar-free jello
Thats a start anyway. How about you guys??

I hope its ok, for me ... I decided to start because I noticed that there was a special thread just for people wiht thyroid plroblems and many have been through the same procedure as me and are on the same drug.

Hi Carolxi! I was supposed to wait and start...but I started today!! I went shopping like I said I was going to, and stocked up on everything I would need. I made up some chicken salad today...with some leftover chicken sliced for salads...and Ive chopped up some cucumbers and made some of those cheese "crackers" I found a recipe for on here. How are you doing? What day is it for you, etc?

Hi ssmith4050!! I started on March 1st too!!! I couldn't wait. Wow chicken salad sounds wonderful. I weighed myself the following Wednesday - I was afraid to do it the day I started because I didn't want to know. I weighed myself today and I have lost 3 pounds, so I don't know how much altogether. Friday finishes up the 2 week induction period. What will you do then? I have to admit I have found it a bit hard going. I don't know the recipe for those crackers thingys you mentioned. Can you post it here?
Let me know h ow you are doing!! Cheers, Carolxi
