Hi everyone! I am a 25 year old female that really needs a good support system right now. I am currently tipping the scale at 176 pounds on a 5'2 frame. This is the heaviest I have ever been and I am really feeling down about myself. All through high school and college I had maintained a healthy weight around 115-120. Once I started dating my boyfriend the pounds slowly started sticking on me and I am having a really hard time controlling my food intake. We are really active in sports but my eating habits are HORRIBLE. I bought the Atkins books and I am so excited to start and lose all this extra weight. I tried dieting on South beach once before and after about 4 days I lose motivation because I need someone to be accountable to besides myself. So if anyone has any support or would like someone to be accountable with PLEASE write to me.

Re: New here and need support
Hi Sus - and welcome. You came to the right place - plenty of accountability and encouragment right here!!! The best thing you can do for yourself (other than reading the book and following the plan) is to post often and ask questions. We are or have been were you are at now! You can do this. Join the challenges, drink lots of water and just enjoy watching the pounds/inches go away!
Good luck

Re: New here and need support
Hi, Sus
Welcome to ADBB.
You have been given some great advice. Spend as much time as you can here, exploring the different forums. There is a wealth of information, motivation, support, and opportunities for friendship available.
I am 5' 2.5" and started at 215 pounds... one year ago, I weighed 187 pounds. I know how you feel.
I also know how good you are going to feel.
Hey, I wanted to ask you which book you have. I've noticed a few people who have "The Atkins Essentials", and that is not the book we follow here. We follow the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. (DANDR for short). I have a copy of "The Atkins Essentials", and have read it. It was put out by the Atkins Corporation after the death of Dr. A, and has some fundamental differences in it, to what we follow. I just want to make sure that you have the best information available.
Stay involved with the board... it's good for you.

Watch us participate in the Veggie Challenge!

Re: New here and need support
Hello...my uncle gave me the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution I believe it has a read cover, so I think I am following the same one. He lost over 150 pounds while on Atkins so I figured it must be doing something right! I am amazed at your photos, you look so great. I really hope that I can become a success story to inspire other people the same way that you guys are. I am hoping to lose 50 pounds on Atkins and I am 100% commited.

Re: New here and need support
Hi Sus25. I'm also about the same height and starting weight. I started on January 7th and have lost 18.5 so far. My total goal is 61 pounds GONE FOREVER. The hardest part is just getting started. You'll do fine. Just don't beat yourself up about little slips. It does happen to most everyone.
I'm also pretty active but I found that I have to step it up a little to burn more calories. Do check back and know that everyone here is an amazing source of knowledge. I read the boards every single day.
Are you keeping a food journal? It really helps.
You can do this!

Re: New here and need support
Welcome to ADBB! You've come to the right place for support & motivation.
Great start with the 2002 edition on DANDR. Read it cover to cover & keep your book handy to refer to often. Start a journal in Journal Chats, join a challenge or two, post often & don't be afraid to ask questions.

Re: New here and need support
Thank you guys for all the GREAT support! I am so blessed that I found this site. So I was supposed to start Atkins on Monday 3/3/08. (I was trying to give myself some time to read through the whole book) But after indulging in pizza last night I realized that my favorite food really didn't even taste that good since I realized that I am 100% commited to losing weight and changing my lifestyle. So I am glad I ate it...it helped me start a day earlier then expected and I feel so good and so happy that I won't even miss this food because it is what made me fat in the first place. Does anyone know how to post a food jounal?
Have a good carb free day! I know I will!

Re: New here and need support
Hi Sus. I was in your shoes about 4 years ago. I am 34, 5'2" and weighed exactly 176 when I started this WOE. Within one year I had met my goal of 123. Today I am back up to 150 and back on the wagon of getting back on track. Keep your chin up, I've walked in your shoes, it's hard but it's absolutely possible. Remember, YOU ARE IN CONTROL of this!Staci
