    Hello!

I am new to this forum, and just started Atkins on tuesday, Feb. 26th. I love the diet, it makes me feel SO much better, as I have hypoglycemia and it really resolves my bloodsugar issues. I am not a sweet tooth, so I think the diet is easier for me then some of my friends who have tried it.

I especially need support when it comes to handling negative feedback from friend and family about my diet choices, and eating out!!!

    Thanks
    Jill

don't sweat their opinions. you know what they say. "opinions are like butt holes everyone has one." You know you are making the best decision and healthiest decision for you. Thats all that matters. When people tell you it is unhealthy ask them what is unhealthy about salmon, veggeies, ect. You will do great and that will be all the proof you will need. You can go to www.tickerfactory.com if you like and create your own ticker to visualize your weight loss. I'd also recommend a challenge or two. They keep you accountable and motivated. This board is the best tool for atkins dieteers. I come here several times a day. Keep on posting!!!

      Hi Jill

      Welcome to ADBB!

You've certainly come to the right place for support and motivation. There is a great deal of information available here, so make sure that you spend a lot of time finding your way around the board.

I know that it can be a pain to defend this way of eating to those who don't understand Atkins. They think that all we eat is bacon, cooked in bacon, topped with bacon. They don't know the specifics of Atkins, and are only going on rumors that they have heard. The best thing to do, is just keep your cool and stick to plan. When you start shedding pounds and become the picture of health, their tunes will change.

Stick to the board, and post often. There are a bunch of great people here, who are happy to help you in any way that they can. Best wishes to you.

Hello...I am new to this too. I read somewhere that friends and family are one of the main reasons people fail at diets and they are a dieters worst nightmare! I know when I had tried dieting before my mom or friends would always say "just try a little" or "just go off your diet this one day" even though I know they didn't mean it negative, it was almost as if they wanted me to fail. That is why I am so happy I found this site. Everyone is going through the same thing here. If you ever need support or to vent you have the most support here! Good luck and don't let other people get to you...you are losing weight for yourself and no one else.

Welcome Jill! I don't defend the 'diet' very often. I just tell people that this is the way I eat now, for my health. I've lost over 100 pounds and have improved my health so much, that they don't have a good argument as to how it could hurt me.

              Re: New and a Hello!

              Hi Jill,

At first I would tell ppl it was Atkins but they look at you as though its not something you can live on...so Ive started explaing it like this...I tell them Im eating healthy...Ive cut out all white flour, sugar, & starches from my diet. That seems to be a lot more acceptable...and keeps me from going off on them...I get so mad when ppl who are not aware of what atkins really is feel its their obligation to tell you how bad it is...so saying it that way helps avoind that whole conversation!

Besides like sunny said...when they see you looking better & feeling better...the negative comments get fewer & fewer!

I wish you the best, it deff sounds like you got the right mindset!

Hi and welcome - just remember its not a diet.. its a lifestyle and you don't need to defend your lifestyle to anyone. As for eating out -- you can still do this, you just find meals to eat on plan, which in some cases might require you to plan ahead. Good luck - you can do this!
