  • Must change! It's time to get back on track.

I'm getting back on track with eating low carb. A few years ago I followed the Atkins philosophy and lost 50 lbs (weight then 190). I've always been on the heavy side even when I was active in sports. I'm just carbohydrate sensitive I guess. After being on Atkins for about a year and a half I was lured back to eating carbs. Before long I ate whatever I wanted to and gave up on thinking healthy. Now I realize my mistake and I'm trying to get back on track. I'm the heaviest I've ever been at 260 lbs, and that has to change. I've had really bad headaches for a few weeks and upset stomach/acid reflux...I just feel like crap. I'm generally a confident person but these days I don't go out much. I'm not diabetic but my dad is and I don't want that. I've just finished my 1st week of induction and my headaches are gone. I'm dedicated but it's still hard. I know it gets easier after about 2 1/2 weeks. Eventually your body doesn't crave sugar and carbs but I'm not there yet. I'm trying to make it to the gym 3 times a week. Last time I did Atkins with out any forum help. I'm hoping being active on here will help me stick to it when I feel weak.

I'm scared the 2nd time around Atkins won't work. Are there any 2nd timers that had success? Did it take longer to loose the weight?

I crave rice, chocolate and sugary teas and coffees...if anyone has any advise on good Atkins friendly remedies for any of these I'd love to hear them. It'll give me something to look forward to in future phases of Atkins.
    Any tips are welcome!!!!!

    Hello & Welcome to

I am a 2nd timer, and can tell you that its deff working for me...it does seem a little tougher this time...but I am doing it the right way this time. Last time I lost a lot of weight quick...but I was living on mcdonalds cheeseburgers, slim jims, and diet soda, and never worked out...while the weight did fall off...it obviously wasnt a lifestyle I could live with, which is why I gained the weight back...

This time I am doing it the right way. I am constantly trying new recipes (lindas low carb site) is great for some ideas. I am eating lots of veggies, have cut out the soda (may have 1/day if that) instead I drink water all day long...I am also exercizing this time. I have now realized that this has to be a lifestyle change if I am going to be able to keep it off.

And honestly I can tell you I feel better & better everyday.

I too did it the first time w/out this forum... but I dont think I would be where Im at now w/out all the help/info I've had this time from everyone here.

my tips to you ~ Come here as much as you can and read, read, read, join some exercize challenges (they help keep you moving), and if ever your feeling down be sure to come here and post about it...I have and it really helps keep me going.

We're all in this together! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

    Keep us posted!

Hi there! I am also a second timer There are plenty of us out there and quite a few that have proven this lifestyle to be successful... Please read Mitzimaries success story and journals ~ now thats what I call inspiration to ME!! This forum is good at giving you kudo's for sticking on plan, sympathy & support and most imporatantly encouragment & advise when you are not. While it does help with the accountability factor always remember that you are really only accountable to yourself (deep in your heart). You can't fail and will lose if you keep a positive mindset... don't let the scale dictate your success, but instead rely on your measurements when the going gets rough... And join some of the challenges that are out there ~ they have really been helping me stay on track as I hate to exercise (sorry was a former hater... reformed to enjoy it if for nothing more the stress relieving factor)

      Good luck

Count me in a a second timer, for the second time?? Yes it will work. I know the carb cravings and I also do better when I participate here on the board.

Exercise makes the weight melt off me just like the WOE did my first time around without exercise. I always feel better when I exercise and tend to sick to the plan better. I think it's because if I'm going to put the effort out to exercise I'm not going to undo it with food.

Hiya and welcome aboard! As you can see, there are lots of 2nd timers here... and many of them have reached goal no problem. Check out the STAC (second time around club) here on the board. You'll find they're a great bunch of people there.

As for the things you crave... here's an induction friendly solution to rice: grate some cauliflower, add just a touch of salt and a tiny amount of water and pop it in the microwave for just a few mins. Don't let it go mushy... to seem like rice, it has to have a little bite to it. Serve as you would rice. Quite a reasonable substitute.

          Happy losing!
