  • In for the long haul

Hi - I'm Sally - I lost 45 lbs about 5 years ago and almost immediatly had a crisis in my life that took my mind off of this woe. It took quite a while for my metabolism to change back to slug mode. I've tried Atkins a few times since but just wasn't in the right frame of mind to stick to it for very long and I was forgetting exaclty what a clean induction looks like. Now I am feeling more inspired than ever. I've been on program since 3/11/08 and have lost 11.5 lbs already - not even a week is up yet. I find a lot of inspiration from all of you out here. This is my first post but I've been reading yours for a while. My next step is going to be incorporating exercise (more than my nightly walk that I do now). I usually can exercise or eat correctly but not both at the same time. Low carbing definetly gives me the energy that makes me want to exercise though so I have a plan to get to the gym tomorrow. (They may not remember me there!) I have some mini goals - about 10 lbs per month. Is that reasonable do you think? My first goal is to go from 247.5 to 235 and I'm just one lb away from that right now. Hope to hear from you friends.

Re: In for the long haul

Hiya Sally... nice to meet you. Great that you decided to join us here on the ADBB board.

Congrats on your losses so far... you've made a great start and sound very committed this time around.
If you post lots and make friends here, it's a huge help to sticking with the programme.
Kudos to you for your intention to start exercising again. That really speeds things up.

As for your monthly goals, it's very hard to say... everyone is different and there are so many variables to weight loss. Best to think direction rather than speed. Once you've reached goal, the time taken losing will seem to have gone by in a flash.

    Happy Atkineering!

Thanks Sally for the nice welcome - yes you're right I am just going to focus on being pointed in the right direction since this woe is a way of life too. I'm just going to try to enjoy the ride! I'll bet life in Italy is fun - with fresh foods too. Good for you! Do you mind my asking where you're from in England? I was just on vacation there a year and a half ago and just loved it! What a beautiful country.

Thanks SallyStella! Yes life in Italy is very good... the food is wonderful too, even without all those carby things!

I was born in the UK in Devon, in a little seaside town. I remember it being quaint and nice, but left age six and have lived in various places since then...but in Italy for by far the longest (around 30 years!!)

Glad you enjoyed your UK trip. I've yet to make it to the States, but would love to one day.
