  • Giving it ANOTHER shot..

Hi, my name is Tammy and I am 37 years old. I followed Atkins a few years ago and was very successful in loosing 85 pounds. I went from 247 (a lot of depression eating since my husband was away from the family awaiting his transfer to our location) to 162 in a few months of stirct carb counting and a lot of diligence. Somewhere in the past year, I have lost my drive and now weight 195 at 5'11". I hate the way I look and feel. I have gone back to Atkins several times, and do relatively well for a few days. I start to feel better and actually see the scale to slowly move and then POOF it is gone and I am off to eating hamburgers (WITH THE BUNS!), french fries, etc... As a matter of fact, I am polishing off a bag of hershey's easter eggs while typing this. I know I am pathetic! I have tried everything from trying to squeeze into my skinny pants (which are only a size 10, but at 5'11" I was pretty thin), to posting pictures of myself when thinner on the fridge and nothing works. What has happened? I love high protein food, but chips and dip is easier when I walk in the door from work starving... What worked for me on Aktins was keeping it very simple (meat, cheese, eggs and salad), but I just can't sit and plan out a menu without including potatoes, pasta and bread. Before I had no problem preparing those things with the protiens and sitting down to a meal with my family, now the only thing I can think of when preparing a meal is if I should make 2 boxes of scalloped potatoes or 1. I live in a very remote area and we don't have fast food, which is a plus. I have to grocery shop for a week or more at a time, and as you all know a few bags of doritos does not go bad the way a bag of salad does after a few days. So, what next? How do I get my mind set back? None of this ever used to be an issue with me. With summer coming, I can't stand the thought of not wearing a cute little bathing suit. I have even looked at them in larger sizes and just can't imagine that being me in them. Any advice would be soooo wonderful. We are going to my parents house in the city this weekend, so I am hoping to get all the "fast food" eating out of my system but could really use a lot of advice for how to get back on track come Monday. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

You know, with me, I made the decision to go on plan but it took me a few days of yelling at myself, (with a french fry in my mouth) before I actually got a real cheat free day in.
I really wanted and I didn't give up trying.
Keep trying, and you'll do it

Hi Tammy! I do the same thing...I was on Atkins a couple years ago and lost a lot of weight, and gained back even more. Since then I have gone on and off a few times. I get all gung ho about it and follow it diligently for a few days and then something happens and I am stuffing my face with carbs again...This time though I feel good about it. I did mess up a little on Easter but I am back on track. Coming on the board every day really helps. There is a lot of support and motivation here! Also I find that taking a few minutes for myself and writing in a journal every night has been helping me. And yes remembering that tank top and bathing suit season is coming helps also. I knew I had gained back a lot of weight but when I went to the doctors a few weeks ago and got on the scale and realized I weighed over 200 lbs, I think something clicked in my mind to get serious about this WOE and commit to it for good. I tried low fat and counting calories and excercising for a while, but I still gained weight doing that. I know that Atkins is the only WOE for me, and its good to be back! If I can get back with the program, I know you can do it! Come on here whenever you're feeling weak!
