  • New To Atkins Old At Dieting

    Hi All,

I am new to the Atkins plan. I started last Tuesday and totally blew it this weekend. I lost 6 pounds so far but after this weekends sugar bender I went on, I dread weighing in tomorrow. Once I started I JUST COULD NOT STOP. I think had I just walked away I would have been alright. I had the worst cravings the third day and wasn't really even craving it this weekend, but after one taste it seemed easy to eat more. So.... tomorrow back to a fresh beginning. All sugar is out of the house and veggies are chopped and waiting in the fridge.

I look forward to chatting and losing with others on this diet. My Dad is on Atkins and has lost 16 pounds already. I am glad I found this site as I am looking forward to having a support network.

Welcome VBMOM ! It's neat that you're dad is doing this, too. It is very helpful to have family members who are supportive of this WOL/WOE (way of life/way of eating). Good luck on your fresh beginning tomorrow it sounds like you're on top of the game.

If you haven't already, take time to start reading through the FAQ section on this board. It's such a great site ! Also, do you have a copy of DANDR 2002 (Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2002)? Read, read, read it. There is so much great information in DANDR! I still refer to it just to make sure I'm not falling outside of the guidelines for this WOE and for inspiration.

Let us know if you need anything.

Hi VBMom After the first few days, the real cravings disappear. What remains are psychological cravings, ranging from "oh that would taste so good" to "I resent not being able to eat that, so I will". Stick it out, it's worth it

          Kristine, Dreams and ChickLady:

Thanks so much for the awesome welcomes! Today was a much better day for Atkins. I can say. The weigh in was worse than I thought, but everybody has to start somewhere so I am just going to suck it up, move forward and not look behind or at my behind for a while. Apparently the intial 6 pound loss was a lot of water or I ate a whole lot more candy than I thought as they were back on the scale today. Arg. Ok, done beating myself up over it.

We are relocating soon to Texas as my husband just started a new job. Our daughters have to finish out their school year(freshman highschool, freshman college) so I have until mid June or early July to set a couple of goals for some initial weight loss before we actually get moved. I would really like to lose 15-20 lbs in the next eight weeks. I am not sure if I can do it though. Overall I need to lose about 40 lbs. I figured once I lose 40 that would be a good place to stop and take stock once the weight is gone and see how much things have shifted and in what direction before I go for a possible additional 10. I just don't know if my highschool weight is really such a good weight for me now that I am older. It is just the weight I remember being healthiest at. The thinner I get though the older my face looks, or it could just be that I am getting older.

Have a great week, Monstrous Monday is over for another week. Healthy thoughts your way,

            Friday Glorious Friday

Another Friday another week to prepare for Atkins meals. I am so glad this week is over, it dragged on for ever. I think I have some of my sugar and chocolate cravings under control. They are not holding as much temptation for me. However I am going into the dreaded weekend zone which is where I failed last week. This has been a good week though and I know to come to the boards and read before I give in to temptation as it appears to help. I have gone from 182 to 175.6. I know some of it is probably water, but it still makes the clothes fit more loosely and that works for me!

Hope everyone who stumbles in here has a healthy week and weekend. Stay strong.

Re: New To Atkins Old At Dieting

                Monday Morning!

                Olah Atkins Troups,

Buried with work and waiting for my bacon to get out of the oven so I can have an egg and some bacon. Chicken breasts planned for dinner, smaller pants planned for next week. LOL.

Instead of sweets this weekend I went and bought a regime of garnier face products for smooth, wrinkle free, and no bags under your eyes stuff. By the time I'm healthy and thin again, I hope to look 10 years younger. LOL. I'll let you know how that goes. Thanks for the encouragement Chick Lady. Hope all is well with you and yours.

VBMOM - I hope you're still around - I just HAD to reply... Your post really spoke to me in a way I could relate to... about how one sweet makes it so "easy" to keep going. If I were on Oprah, I'd call it an "Aha! Moment". Anyway, you sound so committed to your plan, and so positive, I just wanted to say thanks so much for the post. Take good care and keep up the great work.

                    Monday

                    Good Morning All Who Enter,

Monday again, time to get busy. I am not relocating now and my girls are home so we are going Atkins all the way around. The youngest of course will still get her extra stuff, fruits and milk as she does not need to lose any weight. I am back to induction again, which is ok as I could stand to lose more weight quickly for motivation. I don't do so great on my own with the next level.

I have found a friend and we are going to start riding bikes. I still will be trying to get my old dog out for some walks to as we both look forward to them.

I am searching the boards today for new recipes and new induction help. Sugar free jello is already on the list.

Have a great day all and try to eat right.

3 days. After that it's easy. The first 3 days are the hardest. Smooth sailing after that. You have to stay focused and positive, you can do it. Good Luck. Keep us posted on your progress. God Bless, Joe

Re: New To Atkins Old At Dieting

Monday Afternoon, Ship's Log. LOL. Feels like Star Trek when I type stuff like that.

Thanks JOE!! It is motivating for me to hear from others on the plan. I have been on induction and did ok, but kind of slacked off and stopped for a few days as we had upheaval going on in our lives. Yes that is an excuse. I see it for what it is, but I used it last week anyway. I am looking forward to doing it as a family. My oldest daughter, my husband and myself could stand to lose weight and get healthier. My youngest follows the plan to an extent as she doesn't need to worry about weight, but likes to be supportive. I keep things on the side only she likes as they won't tempt me at all. Oreo's, milk, pop tarts, etc.

For all who come in for the afternoon news here, not much happening, hopes of a bike ride in an hour weather permitting. More news on that tomorrow. I haven't ridden a non motorized bike for any serious length of time since high school. Back in the day, I used to ride 10 miles a day to my little job in another town. Ah the benefits of youth and motivation for money.

                        Have a great evening all.
