  • Never thought I'd try Atkins

But here I am. I heard negative press and believed it to be unhealthy. I'm not so sure any more and I think this is a plan I can stick with and live with. And viewing the before/afters was extremely inspiring.

I want to lose 20 pounds and my husband wants to lose 50.

I think it's going to be good to be part of a forum like this, to check out regularly and help keep me accountable.
    My Stats:

Original start date: April 18, 2008

    Restart date: April 15, 2009

    Height 5' 5"
    Starting weight 151 pounds

    Current - 147

Also, this is only day 2 of induction and my tummy is making some very weird noises. lol. Even last night, after day 1, it was doing that. My husband said it was my body trying to look for fat. lol. Is this correct?

Hi jende. Welcome to you and your husband! Jump in here, participate in the challenges, journals and forums and you'll make lots of positive minded people. Everything out there has naysayers and people who don't want to see others succeed. Put your mind to it, make a plan for exercise, meals and make friends with the people here who are making it happen. We're so happy you've both joined us and want to share your journey to goal!

Your husband's probably right, your tummy is either getting used to not having carbs....probably thanking you for feeding it nutritious foods instead of all the carby stuff it was getting before.

          Hi, Jende

If it makes you feel any better, my doctor is 100% pro-Atkins, and puts many of his patients on it. I feel so blessed to have a doctor who is able to think outside of the box! So take heart... there are actually health professionals out there, who are in the know!

Best wishes to both you and your hubby!

Re: Never thought I'd try Atkins

                Welcome aboard!

If you read the board consistently, you'll see that Atkins is really an extremely healthy way of eating. Don't listen to the critics... usually they confuse the whole of Atkins with the two week induction phase and rarely have they read the book.

When you go to re-check your health numbers after a few weeks on the plan (cholesterol, BP, blood sugar), you'll most likely find them greatly improved.
                Before and after:

                PLEDGING FLIGHTS
Completed: 1st set of buildings and mountains (Everest,M.Blanc & Kilimanjaro, twice); Tower Masts & Chimneys; More virtual buildings; Challenger's Choice x 2 (volcanos and mountains on Mars). Currently climbing: Mount Snowdon again: 416/475

Start 10 Jan 2005. Maintenance since Aug. 2005.

I haven't had mine checked but my husband has. It will be interesting to see what happens for sure.

Re: Never thought I'd try Atkins

Hi Jende! Just a quick note... In my younger years when Atkins first was introduced, the hype was lose weight eatting all the cream, fat, and steak you wanted. At the time, it was suggested by my endocrinologist stating that it would help with my PCOS to lose a few pounds. I joined WW, instead. Obviously, that did not work.. thirty some years later, I am 2 pounds over the weight I was then. It seems that the advertisement and media embedded the once positive, then emphasized the negative feedback. All I can say to those who have negativity, "Read the book", then tell me what you truly feel.

Have a great Atkins Day! Robin

My husband said to me just the other day "I thought I could eat as much meat as fat as I wanted." I said "Nooooo. That's a myth."
