    HI All...

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Joe. I just started ATKINS induction this past week. The first week went surprisingly well. I have been in Ketosis since I have been checking after day #2, a good sign I guess. The best thing is that after the first few days I have NOT been hungry...in fact, sometimes I have to remember to eat enough food. I'm a big boy, 400+ pounds, and I NEVER thought I would get to a place where I did NOT feel hungry...lol...it has been really great so far...I decided to give up drinking diet sodas too...which I thought was going to be very difficult for me since I have been drinking probably 6-8 of them per day for many years now...to my amazement...I have not missed them at all...Getting used to drinking all this water has been tough though...

Ok, well that's about it for now...just wanted to introduce myself and say HI to everyone...this place seems to have a lot of good information and I am sure that it will really help me out...

    Re: HI All...

Hello Joe! Welcome aboard. It's cool that you decided to join us here for your Atkins journey.

Sounds like you've made a great start. Isn't it awesome the way those hunger pangs diminish so much?
Kudos to you for giving up the diet sodas. They stall many many people, believe me. Besides, you have to count the sweetner in them towards your daily allowance (three portions... equiv. to 3 teaspoons).

Keep us posted as to your progress. We're all in this together!

            Re: HI All...

            Thanks everyone...I feel very welcome...

Just a quick update...today was one week for me and even though I told myself that I was NOT going to weigh-in until induction was over (2 weeks) I just couldn't resist...happily...I have lost 8 pounds. I am pretty happy with this considering I have NOT started exercising yet...that's coming this week...I wanted to give myself one week with no extra stress just to get going...and since I'm 400+ and have not exercised in quite some time I wanted to plan out how and what types of exercises I was going to start with...and although I am still worried a little about the whole 3 cups of vegetables thingy and whether I have been truly following induction to the letter (see my other post) I think it is going very well thus far...again, thanks for the welcomes...

You'll find there are lots of tips to be had here for making those veggies palatable. Soon, I bet you'll come to love 'em!

Actually, the problem is that I "love them" too much...I have been having a little more than 3 cups total on some days while still staying under the 20 carb limit total. I don't use much dressing or sauces or sweetners, so I kinda figured that as long as I was under 20 net carbs - that I was doing OK, but now I am not so sure...I wanted to do it right...I hope that by eating more than the alloted 3 cups that this didn't mess anything up...

Ohhhh... gotcha! You're like me... a veggie fan!

My advice is that you try to stick to the amounts for the first two weeks as best you can, then make the move to OWL straight away. You can stay on rung One (which is more veggies) until you're within 10 lbs of your goal if you want to (though I'd move on sooner than that so you have more time to learn how various foods affect you).

It's pretty hard to gain weight from veggies (non starchy veggies, that is).
