    Hey guys!

My name is Mike. I'm 25 years old and currently ~465lbs.

I'm considering the Atkins plan, but I don't want to just jump into it. I want to make sure I understand it and know what I'm getting in to.

So far I've just been reading information online, I ordered a book but haven't received it yet.

I figured it would be a good idea to get some support here.

Look forward to learning a lot!

    Mike

Hello Mike... nice to meet you. Kudos to you for ordering the book. The 2002 edition (of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) is the one this board goes by as it was the last one written by Dr A in its entirety before his death, hence hasn't had other "pens" messing the plan around.

Hope you make the decision to come fully on board. I'm sure you'll reap the benefits both in improved health and an improved figure if you do.

Ask any questions you want. We're happy to help.

Hi Mike. I'm new and learning too. Stick around and get inspired.

I pooh-poohed this diet for years because of negative attention, and meanwhile, strangely enough, I disagree all of the time with the media and experts on a wide variety of subjects. Old thinking is too engrained to consider it. Medical experts are afraid to think outside of the box. Now I'm thinking this is a reasonable answer to obesity and it's not been given a fair assessment by most.

My own story isn't that phenomenal, but it's good. 6 pounds in 7 days. Not bad.
      My Stats:

Original start date: April 18, 2008

      Restart date: April 15, 2009

      Height 5' 5"
      Starting weight 151 pounds

      Goal - 125

      Current - 147

You are very wise to get the book, do the research, learn the program, and then set a date to start. So many people think they can bypass the book and just get the information online, and sadly, they don't really understand the why's and wherefore's of the program.

I wish you all the best!

          Thanks guys.

I did order the 2002 edition of the book. It seemed to be very popular around here so it made sense to order it.

Like others, I've always been scepticle about this plan. But I recently witnessed the results up close with family members and friends.

One of my main concerns is a lot of what I've been reading talks about a lot of sea food (shrimp, tuna, salmon, etc) which I don't eat. I just hope I can work around this and still maintain a healthy diet.

Welcome aboard. You'll see how, after the 3rd day or so, easy this diet really is. My only regret is I wish I would have started sooner. A LOT sooner. Good luck and keep us posted. God Bless, Joe

You can certainly work around the seafood if you don't eat it much. Just eat sensible amoutns of beef, pork, lamb, poultry, eggs etc. If you follow the programme properly (and keep the fats up), eating these proteins won hurt your health numbers, rest assured.
