    Day One ...

So far, so good. I spent a lot of time reading here before joining and starting this new and exciting WOE.

I am a 37 year old mother of four (3 daughters, 1 son) ... my children are 18, 16, 12, and 11. I have a wonderful husband who married me as a "fat chic" and loves me no matter what ... but I no longer love myself. Don't get me wrong ... I LOVE who I am on the inside -- I just don't like the outside very much.

I have read DANDR, front to back, some sections several times, and believe I have a pretty good handle on things. I have a fitday account, and today my numbers were pretty good ... 68 - 26 - 6 ... not too bad for day one.

I have made small changes in the past year, with very positive results. I was a 12-pack + per day Mt. Dew addict for many many years. I quit drinking the stuff almost a year ago - I believe it was May 25th of last year when I had my last can - and with just that change came a 22.5 pound weight loss in the first 3 months, that I have managed to keep off. I'm still 85 pounds overweight, though! That's why I'm here. Instead of Dew, I started drinking more water ... and also iced tea. I think that will be one of my biggest challenges ... giving up tea.

My other big challenge, and one that really does worry me is that I don't enjoy a lot of veggies - not ones I can have in induction, anyway. Corn is my favorite, followed by green beans. I can do raw broccoli and cauliflower - but can't do them cooked. And I love iceberg lettuce - not so crazy about the darker greens, though. So I think I might struggle with that - I've always been kind of a picky eater - no mushrooms, onions (unless they are chopped very fine), tomato, pickles... yuck. I love pasta and bread - two huge no-no's on this WOE. But I know this WOE, when done properly, has amazing success ... and that's what I want.

My first big goal is to be 30 pounds less by the end of June when I go on vacation.

Looking forward to getting to know you all, and learn from everyone.
    I WILL SUCCEED!!!

Welcome!!! So glad you joined. I know how you feel about the veggies predicament. I'm not a fan of veggies at all!!!! I'm looking into some ideas to fix this though. Ever heard of Jerry Seinfeld's wife's new cookbook? It's call "Deceptivily Delicious". I don't own it but from what I've heard she takes veggies and then processes them in a food processor and adds it to whatever she is making (ex: she puts spinach in brownies, carrots in mac n cheese). The veggies are ground so fine that you can't taste them in the recipe. I'm thinking of trying something like this wit Atkins friendly recipes. Yesterday I made a casserole with Onions, I hate onion but I cute them sooo fine that I could eat them without tasting them. That's just an idea!

Anyway, welcome again! Good luck on your journey to a skinnier, healthier you! Stay Strong!!

Welcome, sounds like you are prepared for success.

      What I know:
      1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

        Thanks.

I do have another problem ... at one point in my life (about 20 years ago) I weighed 155 pounds (I'm 5'7") ... everyone around me told me I was too thin. At 175, I felt my best, and was told I looked my best. But when calculating my BMI, even 175 is considered overweight.

Is weight really just a number? If I look good, feel good, and am healthy at 175-180, is it still "ok" to have a BMI of 28 and be considered overweight?
        I WILL SUCCEED!!!
